Bingo!

well the simple fact is this, parks are pretty empty even on weekends. It's sad.

The fact that these laws exist are stupid and im sure that they do get enforced, especially in oakville. If you saw how many by-law enforcement cars drive around here daily you'd shake your head.

a lot of that stuff isn't enforced and is there for liability purposes for the city.

No beer = no broken glass...no playing in non-designated areas = no kid cutting his foot on that piece of broken glass and his parents trying to sue the city for not maintaining a safe park.

see the logic? In our sue-happy society, where few seem willing to take responsibility for their own actions (and the resulting consequences) or actually PARENT and SUPERVISE their children, why are these types of laws such a surprise?

is the only other alternative is to have everyone sign a waiver every time the use public facilities? lol.

you leave out a lot too. The age restriction, for eg...it says that "any such restrictions shall be posted in the area of the park facities by sign". You make it sound like there are enforcement officers walking around with omnipotent power to ban people at a whim...

who is telling kids they can't play there??? Permits are required because we don't have unlimited park space here...having organized sports leagues means we need some type of permit system, otherwise you have two teams with 30 people showing up who can't play because two little kids got there first? How would a league function?

btw...you'll notice how much cheaper our public facilities are in Canada vs. some other places. Our user fees are WAY lower than some other places. My cousins lived in D.C. for a couple of years and my aunt and uncle were surprised to find out how much it cost for their kids to play baseball in a rec league or to swim at "public" pools for the summer

I think we have it pretty good here (although beers in the park doesn't seem like a horrific idea...but some losers here would ruin it for everyone, I'm sure). I'm not sure which of those rules you find particularly "restrictive"???

Didnt see that part.

Regardless why dont you spend your time bitching to city council members, instead of a trance forum?

I use to play for the City of Burlington for soccer, and played with the city of Oakville team aswell, there is no way this shit is enforced. If we didnt have a place to practice, particularly in the early season, we just make two small nets and away we go. And the by-laws guys all hide in the park parking lots to smoke and take breaks/sleep whatever they may do. We never we told to get outta there.

perhaps...

but maybe Rodrico was too polite

it's more sad to me that you seem to sit there all day and dredge up negativity...and, in this case, while knowing virtually nothing about what you were talking about...being outraged at bylaws that you didn't know were not enforced...possibly because you haven't even bothered to attempt experiencing these "freedoms" and having them restricted to you instead of just freaking out

"nazi laws" and "gestapo" analogies in reference to unenforced Town of Oakville bylaws and enforcement officials, lol...I love it!!!
