ehmmm... ever witnessed DJ RUSH??? The big bad black guy from Chicago!
Damn, that guy spins some really hard and fast acid techno!! He produces on DJAX UP BEAT but spins MUCH harder than Miss Djax herself.
I saw him at the last Awakenings Festival and I had never heard such hard & fast shit in my life!!!!!!!!

hah.

trance is just as fucking mainstream/commercial as any other top20 dance act is.

sorry, but trance is not regarded as "underground" anymore... it hasn't been "underground" for donkey years.

well,I would like to add that a lot of the good trance is still underground, and its still very underground where I live. The pop sounding trance is very wide spread I must agree, but it isnt nearly mainstram as pop music, trance songs make it on 90 or so on the billboard charts.

Ehhh... yes, but that's because you live in the US?
Here in europe trance (the trance 90% of the people on this board like) isn't underground anymore. I would even call it rather commercial. And while the US are very dependent on Europe regarding trance, it is jusitfied to say trance isn't underground yet rather commercial.

So please no more comments like "Well, I live in AMERICA and because we are quite pre-historical regarding trance, trance hasn't become mainstream here yet. So you people from other countries ain't allowed to say trance isn't underground coz in AMERICA it still is."

ps. In Holland Tiesto's Flight 643 made it to the top 5 on the billboard charts... not as mainstream as pop-music you say?

First a word on techno/trance subgenre etc:

Back in 93/94 when I started listening to ****** everything was just called techno so I strongly agree that techno is like the roof under which genres like trance, house etc. reside. One good source to find this out is the well known "Trance Nation" CD series. Listen to first two or three Trance Nation CD`s and you`ll see it`s techno. Listen to Trance Nation 94 and 95 and you`ll see it is Trance, listen to Trance Nation 96 and you`ll see it`s a lot more like house, so I think there`s been a natural evolution. Everything originated from techno (let`s not talk about Kraftwerk or any "Electronic music" that techno originated from....) There has to be a starting point and to me it`s techno.

Now to "trance is so commercial":

What is correct is that songs like Robert Miles - Children, Some trakcs from PvD and DJ Tiesto made it to the charts but that doesn`t mean that it`s commercial. It would be if it would be a trend for the masses but a few songs in the charts doesn`t mean that it`s already commercial. Go out on the street and make a poll: "Do you know Ferry Corsten?" and think about how many people say: "I do.". Besides that things can only be commercial or a trend if people listen to that kind of music for more than one song but all the time.

I think that trance is neither underground nor commercial but that it is a kind of music for a special group of people who love this kind of music. Simple as that. And I have no problem if more people listen to trance since it`s simply beautiful music so everyone should have a chance to like it.

damn guys I actually missed a chance to see Misstress Barbara and Richie Hawtin live. I am pretty damn pissed, hopefully they can swing back my way again in the not to distant future. BTW a friend just turned me on to a disc by a guy who goes by the name of Massimo, the disc is called [At The Wheels Of Steel] and it is a badass hard bangin disc for techno heads. Gayle San also put a disc out by the same title which is also equally as good.
