ok guys.....went to a screener yesterday
So here is the deal, without spoiling much for you:
In my mind, Wes Anderson definitely did not dissapoint. He quickly fell into his old routine (ie, Royal Tenebaums, Bottle Rocket, etc). One thing I have to say is that Aquatic was definitely more on the comedic side than any of his other movies. Almost every 5 minutes, the audience was hysterically laughing. As for the movie as a whole, I won't go as far as saying that this is his best work. Rushmore was definitely better because Wes really attached you to the characters. At some points in the movie, when the audience was not hysterically laughing, I felt bored with certain parts of the story and looked at my watch (something I have never done with one of his movies). It was evident that Wes wanted to build a strong relationship between Bill Murray and the audience, but to some extent he did not succeed.
Nevertheless, it was a breath of fresh air to see Anderson's work simply because of his unique style.
As for Oscar contention, I definitely expected more from the movie, so I don't see this blowing up like it was rumoured.
