the new one isn't scratchproff but as sal said it does have the click-wheel feature like the mini ipod. battery life is approx. 12 hours depending on how much you do with it. if you put the shuffle mode and leave it it'll last 12 hrs. if you play games on it, constantly use the light, are always pressing buttons, etc. it'll be less. i love this thing though, it's really a great machine. i've never had freeze-ups of random restarts.
