When i see you guys doing one Essential mix, i'll give you credit. Two, i'll be amazed. Ten years worth... keep dreaming.

Oh, and also, Oakenfold came back to the UK from Ibiza in '88 or so and started a club night playing the same music he heard and was inspired by in Ibiza... and now look at the UK club scene. Have some respect for your elders.

Without Oakenfold undoubtedly the Trance scene would not be the same. Armin lists Oakey as a main inspiration, read the inlay to ASOT 2004 and you'll see. Plus Armin says one of his favourite producers ever was 'Man with no Name'... gee, guess what label a lot of his productions come out on? Perfecto was around a 'tiny' bit before PPK... Just to let you know.

Tiesto playing Street Spirit? Oakey was playing a dance mix of that track first. Adagio for Strings? Oakey was playing the original in 96. Do i need to continue? I think i'll let you continue on now. I've made my point and will always stand by it.

G

1. All Oakey has helped to do, is to make 'trance' or 'dance' commercial and a way to make money. He is a very rich man, who I hope has a guilty conscience.

2. Why is it important what Armin thinks? He is a terrible example.

3. I agree with one point however when you say that 'Trance' would not be the same without Oakenfold - if it hadnt been for him then maybe the genre would still have some credibility.

Mixing might be getting worse due to ear-wear, but still, a legend. Check out Perfecto:Flouro or his 94 Goa set... or see how his Creamfields 2004 mix comp is praised as one of the best comps this year.

So what? He may have a claim to fame, but lets be completely honest here:

When you trainwreck hard 7 times and do a stop-start mix 3 times in a 80 minute mix, it's time to hang up the headphones and quit DJ'ing. Either that, or chain yourself up behind a pair of decks and don't come out 'till you can mix decently. The fact that he gets flown across the world and is paid mad cash to DJ, and gets away with sets like that, is a complete embarassment and disgrace to all the truly great DJs out there struggling to make it.

I mean fuck, 80 minutes is the size of a demo CD - about 13-15 tracks. If he trainwrecked 7 and stop-started 3, that means that in his whole set he had 3-5 clean mixes and 10 shoddy ones - thats pretty sad for someone who's been DJ'ing for over a decade. His mixing was never completely stellar in the past, but at least it was relatively smooth. All this proves is that either a) he's senile, or b) he just doesn't give a fuck and would rather pocket the cash instead of actually trying.

Yes he did get a lot going for trance....however the past is past, the future is now. Its kinda like micheal jordan, he pwned basketball for a while and did great things for it, but even he finally retired from playing.

Likewise I wouldn't mind if oakenfold stepped back from djin and kept producing. But that is just me and I know that don't mean shit.

*edit**oh yea, since you guys are bringing up his sets and cds....another world pwned me for years....I still ove listening to thsoe cds.

and forget carrying a lighter, a girl has to be more creative when picking me up than the ol lighter trick. ankle me or something.

Even though I will defend his influence on the scene, his released cd's aren't a testament to anything but his record selection. I heard he gives his tracks to a few sound engineers and tells them the order to computer produce the set in. I guarantee he doesn't mix the vinyl. Live he can be ok at times, but usually shoddy. I don't really hear a lot of sound trance dj's though. At least not headliners. They all seem to have lost their motivation to spin good sets, or can't spin good sets (technically that is).

alright, everyone here can agree Oakenfold is a legend.

But come on, the mixing is terrible, he has no more heart, poor track selection, and doesn't give a shit about the crowd anymore.

Yes he has done a lot for trance and we will always respect his name for that. But that doesn't justify what he's doing atm. When people vote for best DJ, you're not voting for best DJ 5 years ago...

Legend yes....but it doesn't make up for what he's doing now. Every time someone rightfully says that his mixing was terrible at such and such event, someone replies "BUT HE'S DONE SO MUCH FOR US" and it doesn't justify a horrible night!!!

Damn, 7 trainwrecks and 3 soldered transitions in 1.3 hour set. I have been mixing only for several month and I can do way better than that. lmao.

but for sure, I could do at least 9 trainwrecks.

yay me

I dunno. This is totally not the kind of report I'd expect. He's like the king or something.

heres some notes I made during his set (which he got on a little before 2am, and left a little after 3 am.....1 hour 20 mins max).

the top count is noticable trainwrecks....these were all out of control ones. there were 7.

the ones below that are when he plays a track until the end and then just started a new track.....that was 3 times (not including the first song of his set).

this does give me hope that I can make it big one day, cause the set I threw down today was way better than his. hehe, no flow, no transitions, a lot of people just sat around doing nothing inbetween songs.

anyways, I got hit on by a girl. she used the old 'do you have a lighter' line on me. and me being the non-smoker said negative. and that was that.

so next time someone says, well oakie was big early on and got everyone into trance, you can say well he freakin sucks ass at mixing.

i freaken knew it!!!1 I told youse all but none of youse would listen. & now look!! the aliens are taking over the world. Good one oakenfield, youse talentless prostitute!

Oakie looks like what wihtout his makeup??? bald? ha!@
