There are people who join and leave here because of the way most people are allowed to throw flames around these forums. Personally I don't care really, since there are plenty of other places on the internet that would cater to their idea that forums must be an internet version of Oz minus the wicked witch.

That said, these are just internet forums and you're a fool if you take what someone who probably lives thousands of miles away says literally.

More Mods: Mods also have lives too and cannot moderate the forums all day long as they have other stuff to do. I would mod as i do spend considerable time on the forums and such and i think i know the rules well enough to help out with that
I know mods cannot be too strict, but usually public examples of people do not work as well as perhaps a private message asking a user to correct something he has been doing in a polite pm without trying to prove that you (the mod) is the boss and have a powertrip or whatever

i have more ideas, just cant remember them right now, but yea, i hope some of them can be considered

i can't agree more !! specially the artists information forum and internet radio promotion !! it's time to create these sub-forums

Excellent thread, i have to agree with you and i can already see this after being on TA for just under a year.

The New Releases forum DEFINITELY has to get cleaned up. The number of threads with people creaming their pants over the latest track they hear on the radio or on an mp3 is ridiculous.

I definitely think there needs to be more MODS, and there are plenty of knowledgeable users around who come here often enough to do the job.

It is great that people have enthusiasm for trance. That is what brought them here in the first place. However, the forum can be greatly improved by implementing some of the suggestions mentioned earlier in this thread.

The Amateur Producers Forum and the regional forums are great, and there is also some great Music Discussion. The New Releases is good for hearing about the latest tracks and reading reviews, particularly when tracks get released in Europe before they are available here in Australia. There are still a lot of great things about the forums.

We really do need to clean things up a bit though. Swamper can't do it all....i'm sure he is a very busy guy.

Please keep this thread going.....

It's the cost of being one of the biggest messageboards on the web.
When a messageboard grows as much as TA has, it will obviously draw in those who are in it purely to exploit it for their own financial/artistic purposes, people who think TA is their very own playground etc. etc. Not much that can be done about it really.

As much as I can understand what you're saying there Jan, I think it's the wrong attitude to have about it, the only way the forums will improve is if the people who treasure them most put a lot of effort in themselves to make it a better place, we could sit here complaining all week but i'd rather try to make it a better place and fail to do so than just sit back and quit the forum or something

True, but what can you do? Campaign for a change of mentality to posting? Excluding members who aren't contributing "properly"? Ban promotional posts? Regardless of what you might try, this problem won't go away when TA is as big as it is now. You can of course be up front as a good example of how to post, but beyond that I fail to see what sort of action that'll resolve the issue. It's just something you have to live with to a certain extent.

*flush out (delete the account) members who haven't posted in 6 months
*flush out members who's COR post count exceeds their total posts in every other forum <-- this is the biggest annoying thing on TA these days.
*have a dedicated promotion forum, ban it from every other forum.
*have a favourites forum i.e. best track of 1999, longest track ever etc.
*more mods
*no more thread titles like "OMG I DIE", they should be more descriptive and informative wherever possible.

etc etc

again in agreement

Hopefully we can pick some of these points out and put them to Del, will be interesting for the respected users to put the points forward in a suggestion and for del to gauge our feelings on things.

So if someone is without internet for half a year, yet have been one of the most active and helpful members around, they should still lose their account?

This is assuming that everybody with bigger COR post count are just spamming about posting nothing but complete nonsense. While this is true in some cases, it certainly doesn't apply to everyone.

Not gonna work. The spammers will still be around in other forums regardless.

Could work, but unless there is a proper definition at each forum of what's going in there and what's not, we'd just have the same problems here as with new releases/MD. "Best track of 1999" is just as much music discussion as anything else in that forum.

Or, certain mods could start being a bit more active.

Some people like Seventil have been away due to unavoidable circumstances. They shouldn't be punished for this. As for COR post count, isn't, what has that got to do with anything? I for one rarely post in the music discussion forum because its like navigating a minefield. The flamers there are really harsh. I can understand if repetetive threads annoy some people. A simple post that there's an old thread available should suffice. No need to rip the thread starter a new one. Also, these posters might be new to trance or a specific artist. To cite an example, I only started getting into american djs and prog trance about the same time i joined even tho iwas already a Holden fan. I made a genuine post requesting info on markus schulz, and how his much his music really moved me. I got flamed to high heaven, but no clarification was supplied i was just labeled a 'stupid noob' He may have been old news to most people on this forum , but not to me. I'd hate to think that the same thing would have happened back in 94 when i first started listening to trance. Would i be made fun off because i didn't know the complete history and discog of Brian Tresnau at the time?
I'd hate to think that we were convincing people that rance was elitist, or that tranceaddicts were stupid petty people. I have always maintaned that trance fans are some of the most intelligent people i meet. It would be terrible if we were turning people off trance by these attitudes. Its discouraging when threads labelled 'Trance Is Dead' reach three pages, but my request for info on james lavelle receives brief replies from those who only know as much as i do. Where were the elitists then?
