You pose a very good question that is very close to me.. Why is it that we still love trance? Well, if you want an honest viewpoint from my perspective here is what it is for me…

Trance saved my life!

I spent 10 years in the Punk scene and was forced to spend a good year plus of my life living on the streets in abandoned houses and jumping freight trains to get around. It was by no means an enjoyable time and it was only by the grace of God that he brought some good people in my life that I was able to get back on track. Back in 97’ when I was passing through LA I met a girl in Hollywood who just moved there and well a long story short she brought me into her life helped me get cleaned up and introduced me to some new people that I had never had a chance to be around.

I grew up with the aggression of not understanding people and why the world was so cruel but these people were some of LA’s key promoters at the time and we all got to know each other. The night that broke me out of the Punk Rock realm was this one night that I went out with some friends who had molecules, ya I hate to even bring that up but it was a part of what snapped me into this.

Anyway, my friend Davin had this little Honda Civic with a system in it and he put in Christopher Lawrence’s “Rise” Album and we just drove around the mountains in LA. From the SECOND I heard the bells on that first track, Hunteman “Phreaks”I was in love. It had the energy that Punk Rock did but in a different manner. I felt a connection with a sound that seemed so real and I fell in love with trance.

So that was 7 years ago and I still am in love with it!! Back in 99’ I felt myself getting older and I wanted so bad to give back to the scene and sound that I loved that I picked up DJ’ing after watching Christopher play at the Seven party. It was the first thing in my life that I was ever good at. Eventually, I started producing and my second track that I ever wrote was called Somewhere Else that I wrote for him as a way to say thanks and I sent to him. Later on he sent me an email to let me know that he played it at the Dance Star Awards when he won the #1 DJ in America award.

So it’s the progression that I love. For others I can see that as their love as well. Some people move into DJ’ing, Producing, throwing parties or some keep it alive by supporting those who are giving back to this sound to keep it alive. That’s what Surface is for me. Its here for you not for me to get me rich but just a love that I want to share with you. Ok enough sappiness… ; )

Seriously, I am so glad to see all of you pushing this sound forward. Sorry for the long message but you asked a question that I havent thought about in a while…. ; )

This is from my website:

Who is Miracle?

If you can not already tell I am a "Raver." Yes, I sometimes dress like the ones that you see on T.V. with all the bracelets... But hey its a expression of how I feel. I love Trance music; its a musical expression of how I feel. I love being a part of the electronic dance music culture. I have always had a sense of feeling like I have nothing in common with people but when I go to a club I am at home. I love going to the clubs and festivals because there is nothing like hearing your fav music Live. I like to hear music that is about love and beauty. I find it extremely hard to relate to anyone who is not into the music because I have made it such a big part of my life. I love going out and being able to be myself as far as the way I dance and dress. Its what I love about the rave culture, we embrace different styles; uniqueness is actually rewarded. I can be me and actually "play" with glitter and pigtails.

I have been listening to EDM for a little over a decade and I have to say that I settled into Trance in the late 90's and since then its been like "heaven sent" for me. Its all that I listen too.

When I am sad it makes me so happy. I love the highs and lows and the music and the way that it makes me feel. It's just so emotional and spiritual for me.

Trance shows me all that is beautiful with the world and there are songs that have filled me with a renewed sense of hope of us, and this world .

The DJ's convey a message through their music that is unique, sometimes I hear a beat.. no words and I can see so much in the beat so much love and happiness and I want to cry because of it. Its almost too beautiful to take in, like 50 sunsets, endless waterfalls and a world that is full of love and beauty.

Rarely do there have to be words in a song for me to get the message because the beats convey it all and if there are worlds the beats reinforce the message.

When there are vocals they are always so beautiful and then when the beat drops that you can dance to its like that is the time for your body to express everything you have been going through in your mind (emotionally)

I can not expect you to understand what I am talking about if your not into the scene but at least you will understand me a little more.

" To some ears, dance music may be nothing without the rhythm and the groove, but as the rise of progressive trance amply illustrates, one cannot underestimate the importance of melody, either. For as the world’s biggest DJs know, a crowd of people doesn’t only go out to dance, but to feel something strongly from the music" quoted from DJ TIMES.

Best response I have seen yet. Though I am not surprised that you are a Dj. You provide insight only a Dj can. Thanks for that.
