watcha talking bout willis!?
allthough im really loving ferry of late, he's move away from the same old 'ferry' type sound and is playing great tunes again.
armin.. sheesh argh yuk... fluff... same thing.... allthough ppl say this about pvd... at least pvd plays prog tracks then hard ass tracks.
Probspot is doing it for me atm though... along with techno

strange that u give armin credit over the other trance djs.
imo, armin is making the scene more stale, churning out sets of similar tunes over and over again.
trance is just a ticket to other genres, u like it for a while, then realise that hey, techno and prog have this thing called GROOVE. and thats what keeps u going, the search for the perfect groove. kinda like surfing.
trance also lacks DEPTH, like party breaks and funky house (altho these may have a groove, it is shallow). so people initally love it as they can just dance along and smile stupidly. so after a few anthems cds it wears thin. you require substance!

To be completely honest... I don't really know what the difference is.
I'm aware of what the difference is supposed to be, but I rarely pick up on it, some of what I have I think is trance, but is actually classified as prog and vice versa.
So i can't really comment on which if any I have a higher opinion of, however I know I like alot of what is unmistakably melodic trance and also alot of what is certainly prog.
As for the future of trance and prog, I'll leave that up to those more knowedgable that I, for I am a mear punter.

I have always been somewhere between prog and trance anyway, but then I never profess to knowing much about the music I just go out here stuff that I like and be happy. I think some of you lot get too far into the music.
Music is pretty simple and you guys try to be too complex and the meaning and the way it used to be etc..

ill agree and disagree with some points here, but my overall opinion is that people seem to be wanting to clone this typical above and beyond sound while failing to actually produce music that trances you or gives you goosebumps the first time you listen to it.. because for me thats how i identify a good track.
one producer who's fresh and only 22, named gate42, his music delivers imo and be sure to watch out for his stuff in future =) beautiful music really.
as for tech trance, there are some solid gold tunes, and some terrible shite tunes with melodies a 4 year old could play on 'my first keyboard', which is why im not heavily into it.. though a few of the techier sounding tracks that are still very influenced on the trancy melody side get to me..
psy trance i've loved for a while now and i think it's a great way to vary a trance set

I totally agree 100000%. i used to go through the new releases and get at least 5 but now i stuggle to find 1 that is any good. Same sound, same melodies. Basslines all sound very similar and Van Buuren is the one who plays this.
Trance has gotten more energetic and pumping i think and lost alot of the dream aspects that 99-2000 had and thats what trance is all about. i feel it sounds too electronic these days. Alot of chessy vocal tracks seem to be coming out aswell.
Artists i think are good. Filo & Peri, Estuera, Tiesto, Gabriel & dresden.
All i play now is prog trance and 99-2000 trance tracks. Old Oakenfold/Tiesto style stuff and ill never get tired of that..EVER
i think the ASOT 'Newest Tunes Selected' isnt always the most original sounding selection of tunes, as he is playing what is new and giving it a bit of promotion
however his skills are always noticable 'In The Mix' for teh second hour as he chooses new tracks and always puts prog and stuff in there...
that is hte best part of his show.
p.s - Probspots productions kick fcuking ass!
especially moving into summer..
