its okay. I wound up wearing jeans to the event
Now for something indepth ranting. I don't think Oakey was impressed with the venue. For one, he had problems with the left turntable and the way it was set on top of a pillow, WTF!!!! Next there were sound issues that began when D:Fuse was spinning that I think lingered into Oakey's set. Third, why the phuk were there 1 BILLION D:Fuse posters but none of Oakey? At times Oakey seemed a little off in his facial expressions. I saw him repeatedly sit down underneath the visuals while he was searching for the next vinyl and the look on his face was worth a thousand words. Maybe it was just hot behind the decks. And the promotion crew SUCKS. They made us wait for 45 plus minutes outside while the VIP bastards were allowed in. Everyone just standing there to make the club look "packed". Fucking cheesy if you ask me but I guess that is what they are known for. Also, why were there no Oakey shite for sale, but tons of shite for D:Fuse??? And I did get to see D:Fuse pull up in his car with a lady friend while I was outside in the line for 45 minutes for no apparent phuking reason at all except to build some sort of hype. Why do these people think they have to dress like they are in some damn fasion show when it is an event to come and dance to?? What happened to the "old days" when you could wear a t-shirt and shorts with tennis shoes and dance your arse off when now you got to come with the designer button-up, slacks, and dress shoes. I am getting sick of this trend. This is an "underground" scene, so dont come with that Armani shite. If you want to be dressed up, go to another phukin club and hear DJ Wanksta spin the Top 40's all night long. I have seen this trend in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. Maybe its the maturity level as seeing that its a club, so you have to be dressed up. BUT, this is an event, come in comfortable clothes and dance your arse off, Dont come if you are coming to pose in the VIP room wearing SUNGLASSES in a dark club.
That shite is stupid and I wish it would STOP RIGHT NOW.
Well i guess that is the end of my rant.

My rants & review
Pluses:
1. D:Fuse rocked. He had an electronic drum-board that he'd beat away at. I'd missed most of his set, but I'll see him Sunday at the Apple Bar. & I have to love a DJ who sings along to songs! One in particular that went "Take me out" or something. He has GUNS. If the bad rap on Paul is that "he's so conceited someone carries his records", D:fuse has to be carrying his own records to have biceps like that! The girl next to me was swooning over him. I never got into Oakenfold's previous opener, Bahrouz, so D:Fuse was a pleasant surprise.
2. Club never got TOO crowded. Towards the front got crammed with watchers, but if I moved back I could find a spot where I could see occasionally & dance. The place really cleared out around 1:30 AM, when everyone who was there to be picked up or pick up either hooked up & headed out, or headed out in disappointment. The music lovers are the ones left from 1:30-3 AM.
3. Short waits at the bar. Got my 2 Red Bull & Vodkas. ($7). No more drinks for me cause I was driving.
Minuses-
1. Club is hard to find.
This place is off the highway, & I wasn't helped by thinking it was on the oppositie side of the 10 from where it ended up to be. F-ing Frontage Roads! After looping around, I stopped at a gas station & asked for directions. I still overshot Palmdale & had to make one more loop.
For future reference--get on the East 10 Frontage Road as you're approaching the 410 split. Palmdale is a small sidestreet with no discernible landmarks. Turn right on Palmdale & go about 3 blocks past apartment complexes. Just when you think you're in the middle of the burbs & the gas station guy was wrong, you'll see the club on the left.
2. Line situation.
I'd wasted about 20 minutes by being a dumbass & not being able to find the place. The line situation ticked me off further. When I got there at 10:50, there was one line for will-call & cash. & the line wasn't moving AT ALL. I wasn't sure they were doing an elaborate pat-down like they do in CA clubs, or if God-forbid, the show had sold out & they weren't letting more people in.
However, they were letting all the valet parking/VIP people in. The purpose of not taking people from the non-VIP line seemed "cause the promoters could." Who they think they are, Studio 54 in NYC in 1979?? Show some respect & consideration for people paying you $ to see a show. I was especially annoyed as I had a presales ticket. If the cash & presales ticket are the same price ($20), presales should get me in sooner.
Finally, at 11:30, they started letting will-call people in. At this point I'd wasted an hour cause the place was hard to find & the line situation, & was annoyed.
3. Bad setup for live DJs. They put the DJ setup in the best place they could. However, the layout of the club is not good for a live DJ. Different areas broken up by railings/stairways. Not a good light setup. Occasional random bursts of fog very high up in the ceiling. The sound really started to break up & pop around 2:50 AM. Poor Oakie had to crouch down to get his records off the floor!
4. One minor final rant--If you're all the way at the front by the DJ, do NOT climb up on the railing of the DJ cage. You're being an ass & blocking the people's view behind you, & you're probably not that charming to the DJ. Sasha was upset by this in Houston, & someone was doing this to Oakenfold.
I know this is long, but I think from the ratio of posts/views on threads that there's a bunch of lurkers out there.
Either that or it's me & racing4hoes ranting together. Racing4hoes--I should have just periodically yelled "Looking for HOES!" & seen if you'd turn around. Or if I'd get my ass kicked. Next show we'll meet up.
Overall, I felt like the acts (Oakenfold & D:Fuse) delivered, & the venue disappointed. I will not go back to Planeta Bar-Rio unless I'm super bored or it's an act I REALLY want to see.

That song was his own production
D:Fuse featuring Jes - Living The Dream
He spun that and i went nutz as soon as I heard it mixing in. Was singing along as well. i seen him use that beat box last year at Far West Rodeo when him, Liquid Todd, and Oakey were there. Got my vip badge signed by all three of them and even had time to talk with D:Fuse when some idiot pulled the fire alarm. I went on stage and was talking to him at the decks about what he thought of the scene.

Likewise. It sucks when you ID them during the set and by the time you get home, the "extra-cirricular activities" make your mind forget things like this. Well, we got 11 track ID's. Wish we could remember the others.
