Thank you for the info are these subgroups. The descriptions will help out a lot when I get a more advanced music creation program (most likely FL Studio). I started with ejay too. It's not a bad way to get your feet wet. I used it for maybe a month before I got Fruityloops 3.0 and then i've been using that ever since up until the current 4.52 version.

I started with eJay too.. Its good to let you creativity loose and learn how to build up a tune.. Then i changed to Fruity loops 3, upgraded to FL Studio 4 and now im using FL Studio 4, Acid 4 and Reason 2.5..
And a loooooooooot of softsynths..

heheh yea, i just got all the freebies and bought a few of the classier ones. i really should try to take one of them to the absolute limits instead of getting as many as i can im just so greedy.

heres another one for ya cobalt:

epic trance - very much lead and pad driven between 135 and 145 bpm. most epic trancers are lessons in build up. the key with epic trancers is to not overdo your lead riff and pad! mauro picotto is good at doing this. check out lizard or iguana. most epic trancers have very similar pad orchestration. in fact its pretty much the same chords as the folk song brown eyed girl and you will recognise it instantly. urban train has got it at the end. synaesthesia uses it on the main riff. the tiesto mix of silence has it at the end. lizard has it. iguana has it.

this notes for this are typically

c5, d5, e5

and at the same time

e6, f#6, g6

its not really a chord progression cuz they are intervals but some producers add 5ths, 6ths and 7ths to fill it out and give variety to it. but all epic trancers save something like this for a big finale, a musical orgasm as it were. like brown eyed girl, i never tire of hearing this

As usual, I appreciate all the feedback. The information is really helpful. As for good programs (ie. FL Studio, Fruity Loops, etc), please list programs you would recomend (name and version). The more programs that are listed, the more of a chance I will be able to get one best suited for my capabilities. Thanks.

For when I get to producing music...,what are some common mistakes that newbies make when creating trance, which turns out to be horrid sound, rather than electronic music? Also, what are the main patterns or design of mainstream trance? I definently want to avoid creating mainstream "cheezy trance in a can"--crap that is played on pop radio stations. IMO,it's an insult to what good trance really is.

When I have created a track, would the people who have been responding to my questions on this thread like th critique it?

All im saying is that its a very good start. Dont be like my dumb ass that went out and bought Acid without knowing shit. Nowadays I dont like using loops but i love Acid for recording stuff I play with my band and with my friend. Ejay will probably teach you some basic stuff(arranging a song). I understand you though....shit i remember back when i first wanted to make music(back when i was 13 i think lol)....I thought every song was made with 2 turntables and a mixer. So i thought.....so if you scratch with 1200's you get a synth. lol good ol days

i wont knock e-jay, its a great present for a kid+teen at christmas, i think the samples in ejay are good and thats what makes the software what it is, even fruity loops can be daunting to kid's as you spend hour's sorting out your channels before you can hear a tune apearing, then you spend week's adding effect's and bits to mask the join's between changes, e-jay is pretty instant its true what the cover say's "make songs in 15min's" i think youngsters need somthing like this or it will end up as a five min wonder,-~..
