amit, I assume those are the V700's? :P

DJ-Energy, at least TRY out as many headphones as you can...but, if you are gonna buy em from someone, you can probably get cheaper on Ebay.

But the *best* thing to do would be to research more than TWO models. Why limit yourself if other stuff can potentially be so much better?

Gluegun: As I said on the other thread "Which is the best (and worst) pair of headphones that you've heard?", I said there is a big variance in quality between different samples of the SAME Sony V700DJ's. The samples often used in demos (and often sold at huge discount at online dealers claiming to carry the ENTIRE line of Sony headphones) are the sloppy, boomy, uncontrolled-sounding ones - but the ones that are sold at or near full list price at Sony-owned stores and authorized Sony resellers tend to be the overtightened, nondeep-sounding ones. Either extreme is not so good.

Shadyslim, I honestly doubt that is true.

It's common knowledge that there is great variance between different samples of the same models, all along the Sony line. HOWEVER, I really doubt Sony intentionally sends one type of V700's one place and another type somewhere else. It's probably just the luck of the draw...

And if I say that I like my Sony MDR-V6's more than ANY of the MDR-V###DJ headphones, WILL YOU PLEASE STOP TORCHERING ME?

Now for my update of the Sony V700DJ's...

That tight, nondeep bass sound that I heard was due to their drivers not run in enough. After a few hours of listening, the bass became rather heavy and a bit uncontrolled... It's like trying to shoehorn a 12-inch woofer into a box whose cubic volume (in liters) is best suited for an 8-inch woofer! Though it sounds enjoyable on some types of music, it's nowhere near as accurate or as neutral as my AKG's, my Sony V6's or my Grados! I take back most of the things that I said the past two days! Even though the V700DJ's aren't quite as crappy as you made them out to be, Gluegun, I still like the above three headphones that I do own much more than these mediocre V700DJ's!

I'm now back on your side, Gluegun!

I know that! I just wanted to get into a deep discussion about Sony's marketing. Well, not really.

Anyways, Shady, I don't know how sarcastic you were in that last post, so I'll just say you weren't. In that case, yea, I've known you like the cans I reccomend for a while, and, no, I wasn't trying to torture you. :P

Gluegun: Needless to say, I definitely will be returning the Sony V700DJ's to "Mix2NAUGHT" and ordering a pair of either of the Beyerdynamic DT250 series headphones, or (better yet) a pair of Etymotic ER-4P or ER-4S canalphones.

BTW, the Etymotic ER-4S should be about as easy to drive from my portable CD player as my Koss UR-30's - both are very close in sensitivity ratings and are 100 ohms impedance.
