If you can make your stuff sound good on crap equipment, then it'll sound wikid on mad shit. It's harder going from good to crap.

Yeah I started playing on crappy Gemini 600 turntables and found the transition to technics pretty easy.

Ha! classy! yeh- similar story here: I started mixing on 4th hand Shitronic PD-1's, and Gemini PMX80 mixer, through a 60's cash converters amp and nature strip speakers!!! never had more fun that when I started mixing though!

I now monitor through Behringer Truth's (also used for production so 2 birds/1 stone). having siad that, I must say I enjoy mixing more through hifi speakers as monitors have tendency to sound sterile and boring whereas hifi's funk the sound up a bit. The bigger the room the better too because despite having a directional monitor, it's handy becoming accustomed to monitoring with room ambience/reflections. (plus it just sounds cooler imo).

Just noticed this - so if you can stretch to $699, you can get the behringer B2031 truths here:
www.venuemusic.com.au/Products.asp?ProdID=5157

I find that Glen McGrath is a bit 'honky' in the midrange.

producer shite? sorry if it bores you jules but the fact of the matter is you gave me a3 dj names (one of which I wouldnt rate as the first two anyways), and i could give you about 50 times that amount of succesful 'djs' who come out here because they write shit hot tunes. and whats with this thing how it shits you when they bring out producers who cant dj.. who the fuck cant dj? its easy jules

If your into spending money then Dynaudio Acoustics are the best of the best or Mackie HR824's

but then again usully your ears cant tell the difference with good speakers because its all to do with the room they are in... the acoustics of the room is what u want to look at.
