Congrats Graham! I was going to suggest that the reason you're only getting one side is that you;re probably only getting on side of the switch (I had this issue once when I re-wired a tonearm for someone on their 1210, and none of the colors of the wires matched each other and I was only getting one side until I realized that I needed to swap two of the wires but I drove me crazy until I figured it out).
