Great loss to the music world.

I remember loving listening to his shows to see when he'd play some decent dance music and I couldnt believe the diversity. One minute you'd be hearing gabba the next you'd be hearing the beatles and then the latest offering from Ram Records!

well something like that, anyways rip John - a legend in the true sense of the word. You will be sorely missed.

I am gutted by this news. John Peel broke boundries and had the guts to play what he wanted to on radio that other DJs wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. A great loss...

RIP for a great DJ, he truly embraced music of all kinds, in such a way that if we all were like him there would be no such thing as elitism

cherish the memories of the past and look on to the future

RIP

Absolutely shocking news. We have lost an absolute legend and he can never be replaced. Hes the only dj who played hard techno followed by a folk song and then the Clash! I have fond memories of listening to his late show on radio 1, and watching him present coverage of Glastonbury years ago. As a tribute the New Bands tent at the festival will be named after him
quote:
Glastonbury's New Tent is to be renamed the John Peel Stage, according to a report on BBC News.

"It's very appropriate because it's all the sort of music that John would have chosen," Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis told BBC Somerset Sound.

John Peel had the knack of ignoring hype, and letting the music do the talking. And if anywhere in Britian has a similar attitude towards music, then it's surely Glastonbury Festival.

eFestivals is sure that the thanks of thousands - if not hundreds of thousands - of Glastonbury attendees over the years go to Michael Eavis for announcing this most fitting tribute to John Peel, who'll be very sadly missed.

nothing I say here comes close to what he has achieved. I'm just so gutted. I suppose at least he went out when he will still be remembered so well and with so much respect. I think I can honestly say that to my knowledge, no other DJ has reached his heights of respect across music scenes throughout time. And I thank you for that

Bye John Peel...

brought the likes of SALT TANK international fame, after featuring four of their tracks on his show in august 1994. No genre that was to far from pop for Peel, even EDM.

i think it is fair to say, that regardless of what genre of music he played next, and regardless of whether you would usually go for it, it would always be good.

man i am still upset about this..
