Uh...I don't? Explaining what something is does not mean I like or dislike that thing.

but, my question is still unanswered - how do you design a poll that measure's a dj's ability? and how would you keep the poll so that it doesn't turn into a popularity contest? and what would the purpose of such a poll be?

I was answering to the thread starter on regarding if the poll should be cancelled.
For your question, i'll say it's impossible to measure a dj's ability.

Who cares about it? OBVIOUSLY as tiesto/armin etc are always voted highly the people who care about it are armin/tiesto 'omfg asot is sooo goood11!!11' types. Their opinions are uneducated, uninformed and irrelevant.

I'd like to see it go and be replaced by nothing.

Why aren't there any worthy trance DJs? Is it something about the music, or the crowd that follows it?

I mean, I understand people's complaints about the larger trance DJ's but what is causing no better DJ's to emerge? Are all trance DJ's bad or just the well known ones?

But really, why is this happening? Where are the good trance DJ's?

Yes its to do with the crowd that follow it. Whether people on 'Tranceaddict' want to hear it or not, 'trance fans' are seen as clueless muppets and trance djs are mainly a joke.

The only one of the more obvious, (to put it that way) trance djs that has any respect actually within the dance music scene is Paul van Dyk. Although this is mainly to do with his work in the past. I dont think many people think what hes doing these days is partcularly amazing, but he can still count on sasha, carl cox, laurent garnier etc as good friends who respect him for what he does.

If they cancelled this poll, how would I know who to like?? I wouldn't know who everyone else thought was cool, and therefore I may not be cool either!!!

Talking about the art of DJing overall, there are so many better DJ's (mainly turntablists) that most trance DJ's who do relatively nothing wouldn't even make it in a top 100. A few might make it though. For example, there are some uniquely skilled DJ's like Sasha who can hold transitions for say...around 256 bars...who might make it.

u keep mentioning pvd, i know youre his fan and all but hes not the only skillful trance jock that gets respect, try john '00' fleming. an awesome mixer with a beautiful selection of tracks and flow, much better than pvd's monotonous 150bpm bang out shit.

Joof doesnt have any respect whatsoever. Im talking about people within the business... Im not saying their opinion counts more than yours, but PvD has a lot of respect from almost every top dj from any genre... Whereas joof does not.

oh ? and can you prove that ? who are you to say that did you have a chat with every top producer in the scene to see who respects who ? we know youre a pvd fan but youre living in the past glory, hes washed up now. maybe take a break from touring and work on his sound and style.

EDIT : is it cuz pvd has worked with bt, cox and wetbam ?? does that mean joof gets no respect cuz he only worked with hemstock & jennnings and MIKE ? cmon girl...

What should trance fans be doing to keep themselves from becoming a clueless muppets? What makes a respectable EDM lover? Is it a diverse music collection, familiarity with older songs, taste for the same kinda stuff that older people like? Or does simply liking trance make a TA clueless?

What does it take for a fan to not be clueless, or a DJ not to be a joke?

I'm not trying to be an ass or even start an argument, its just that I've read so many posts that talk about this problem, but Ive not seen very much info on how to go about solving it.
