during the 1930s, with the country in desperate shape, things changed in a big way as people realized that living in an unregulated, dog-eat-dog world with few social and economic safety nets was ruinous for anyone who wasn't very wealthy. |
but the thing is, the majority of Americans CANT and WONT have that "englightenment", so to speak. theyre so set in their ways, that this country is SOOOOOOO divided, its ridiculous. just look at Ohio. they lose 250,000 jobs, and yet they still vote for Bush. if that cant change their minds, idk what will.

frost, no offense, but you bitch and whine about a LOT of things on here...so i think we have every right to bitch and whine about our idiot president remaining in office for 4 more years. i don't think i have to be on the campaign committee to feel upset about his loss, fuck that. |
Erin, that is a pretty silly comment... Sooo since i bitch and whine about stuff(which stuff i dont know).. That gives you the right to write political nonsense? I didnt say you couldnt feel upset. I said it it was really importal to you to make a change you would have done more. And with this reply as i assumed. You did the bare minimum. Maybe next election instead of sticking a sticker on your car. You can assist the campain...

it's sad to say, but it will have to get even worse, going way beyond 250k.
remember that during the new deal it took a great depression, the depths of which we can scarcely imagine, to pry people away from those cultural beliefs they cling to.
during the depression unemployment peaked at 30%(!); savings were wiped out (that's why have fdic insurance now); retirees where dying left and right (that's where we got social security); homelessness and foreclosures were rampant (that's where we got an effort to create affordable housing and a federal housing authority) -- the list is endless...
people just seem to have forgotten their history -- both those who blindly support bush without paying attention to current events and democrats who seem to believe that the apocalypse is imminent.
remember what marx said (paraphrased): "History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce."

emigrate - to leave one's place of residence or country to live elsewhere
****
I used to say that too...but I'm not ready to give up on the USA just yet. If we don't stick around, who's going to be here to stop Bush from banning gay marriage, abortion, nature preservation, dancing, singing, wearing less than three layers of clothes???
haha... ok I'm going overboard, but you get my drift...
So, ok, fine, 52% of the country likes Bush. What about the other 48%? Just cuz we're slightly in the minority doesn't mean we can't make ourselves heard. fr0st is right when he says voting is NOT the only way to make a change. If we all feel that strongly about Bush, we better be as fucking political as we can over the next four years, and maybe we can keep him from making as sticky of a mess as he's planning on making of our country. Cleanup is always easier after a wild party when you've been throwing empty beer bottles away throughout the night.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
O, and for the record - I'm not telling anyone what to do (or what not to do). Whine all you like!! It won't hurt me.

ur message is praiseworthy but unrealistic. i, as a democrat, cant believe my eyes looking at the fact that Republicans run the Senate, the House, and the presidency. we cant stop nething from being passed. lets be realistic. we basically have NO voice whatsoever for the next 4 years. its not just a presidency we have to deal with, its the Senate and the House that will go with everything the president says.
