The slowness is not because of bandwidth... You can saturate a 100Mbps link on a shitty 400Mhz computer with 128 megs of ram and a 5400 rpm IDE hard drive.

The slowness is from excessive disk I/O which causes bottlenecks when retrieving data from the databases in order to send out the info for the threads to everyone.. Search was the main problem with this... If I turn off search I can probably handle 1200 ppl as well as I can handle 850 now.

that's a lot of data .. if you think about it, that's about 1,400,000,000 characters, if we say that every word is 5 characters long on average, then we can say that you have about 300,000,000 words ..

that's a lot of words.
