| quote: | so your answer is...what?
do you even recognize the epic struggle within Islam or did you start hating Bush because it's cool?
you have no definitive answer for the struggle. millions of innocents are dead, you have your complaints, yet hundreds of leaders from around the world who wake up and die within the struggle who are much smarter and developed than you, deal with it daily. that includes my president.
your just a protester, of what, who cares, but just that. |
Someone is becoming testy and sensitive Let's clear up one thing extremely quickly. First of all, you don't know me, you don't know what I do in life, what my educational background is, or what I believe and stand for. So, do me a favour and lay off the ad hominems, especially when you're in left field. I assure you that very few are smarter and more developed than me, especially your president. You'll be shocked to know that I actually do more than protest
I'm Arab, I've lived in the Arab world for half of my life, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, have endured two wars and know a thing or two about Islam. And my answer still stands. If the US is serious about quelling the threat of radical Islam, they're proceeding in the wrong direction.
There are different "strains" of Islam, each based on a different interpretation of the Koran. Very few are actually radical, and most of them are quite moderate. Having said that, yes, there is an epic battle within Islam as we speak, but radical Islam is an extremely recent phenomena and it wasn't created in a vacuum. The root of the rise of radical Islam lies in what most Muslims feel is Western, especially US injustice towards issues that they cherish, whether it be Palestine, troops in the Arabian peninsula, or control of their oil resources.
Now in terms of solution, if one removes causes for grievances, causes that are unjust in my opinion, then effects resulting from these causes will be subdued if not eliminated. I assure you that force, along the lines that your country is using, will only embolden them and foment their movement, not to mention shift the more moderate elements of Islam into their camp. The more complicated issue is to come up with a strategy to implement the removal of these causes, but their removal is essential for a long lasting solution to this growing problem. If you'd like to discuss the later, in a civilized and non-inflammatory fashion, I'd be more than glad to entertain you. Otherwise, we shall have to part ways.
