because the more you pay for a lawyer, the better the lawyer will be.

for example: if you pay £10,000 for a lawyer to defend you in a murder trial, you are less likely to be aquitted than if you had hired a lawyer for £100,000, as the expensive lawyer knows his shit a lot more/knows dirty little get-out tricks/knows how to bring others into disrepute etc etc etc.
