Wow, what a great piece of advice! I'm in a uni with 25k people (around 5 k on my campus alone), Using that theory i should have a gig this weekend no problems!

But instead I'll be sitting around on my elbow (see Dirk W's post), cos it doesn't matter a bit how many people you go to school/uni with, its how many promoters you force your promo onto, same as producing. If you want a gig, this is the way to do it.

This is true, it is about the music, but theres something special about vinyl, if I walk into a club and the DJ is laying an awesome mix with 2 CDJs, I'll be all happy and go about my clubbing, but if I walked in and the DJ was laying down the same mix but with vinyl....I dunno, it just adds to the experience for me, alot of people prefer seeing a DJ with vinyl aswell, for the WOW factor and of course the experience, but like you said, it should be about the music, I'm a die hard vinyl whore, but I do appreciate CD decks and what they have to offer, I plan on incorporating one into my setup to add to my sets, I will not be biased and stick to vinyl and be help back from what the rest of the DJ equipment world has to offer.

But what Coleman has surgested is just plain wrong for anybody who wants to get into DJing.

And why for the love of god is this thread still up, make me a mod for 10 minutes so I can close it before some new TAs see this and buy an Ipod instead of decks.

15 year olds should not be giving out this advice anyway.

They simply have not have the industry exposure to work out what works and what doesn't. He (obviously) does not know what it really takes to get a dj gig in a club, cos he's never done it himself..........

How about music = records. I like that equation.

no! how about you sthu.

i am against people burning mp3's and not buying music. i think it does have a negative effect on the artist(s). and i believe the dj has the right to choose his/her own format, whether its vinyl or cd or wutever. once again its all about the music, and music only.
