I reckon this is pretty much bang on. Musical genres tend to wax and wane in popularity and the dance music scene is no exception. As far as trance is concerned, I can only comment on the records I see (and buy) in the shops but right now trance seems to be heading in a very techy direction. It'll probably remain that way for a while before the sound becomes tired and some other sort of influence takes over.
Longer-term, production standards will continue to rise so what is sounding fantastic now will probably sound so-so in four years time (a bit like a lot of 1999 trance sounds these days, IMHO). I think (hope!) we'll hear more and more tracks that are genuinely jaw-dropping and will probably a move away from the very generic feel that a lot of trance seems to have at the moment.
Predicting the future is always difficult but just my 2p worth, mind.
