Well for one thing.. it'd be great if you used ur own composed samples to make ur tracks
That way no one can say "techno is computer generated music!"

Why wouldn't you just like to see him play a grand piano anyway, without coke?
How do you know he'd even take coke anyway?
LOL. When doesn't he do coke?
I have played some guitar before and am starting to produce. I never got that into guitar, certainly never read the music. Just played and used tableture.
By no means have I put out a sick track yet, but I have been able to put some decent stuff together using Reason with a trial and error approach. I just keep adding sounds and playing them all together to make sure that they harmonize and sound good together. Then I sequence it however I see fit. I can't wait until the day that I can sit down and produce exactly the sounds that I want though. I think that's the advantage of a musical background. Usually people with the background understand keys and scales better, also making it easier.

I produce trance and I can play the piano/keyboard but I think I could still produce it even if I couldn't, so no I don't think it's an essential requirment. I guess it helps in melody making sometimes...

OMG What were the chances of that being true! I believe u ow toufas, i'm surprised he only knows the basic keys. I'd love to be able to play appregiated notes on keyboard, just like the lead synth of Communcation. Nothings impossible, so i'll give it my best shot!

well my first question to the topic starter's statement would be, you should ask Airwave, why he keeps reusing the same tired ideas and the same garbage and why he has not returned to the old him and used the innovative brain of his that made him such a fave in the trance community, i bet he likes getting paid by the evil regime's fans.
Dave Clarke can say what he darn well pleases, mr.clarke has not soldout nor does his crap sound the same. It may have taken trial and error but for landmarks like red 1 and others, it may be the best way.
Ian Pooley used to team up with DJ Tonka (who was a classically trained musician) and then they went their separate ways and ol pooley did his own music and he was not trained. I think that it does not matter, as long as you can make the sound that you hear in your head. Certain musicians are trained but they don't do much better than those who don't. As long as you can make what you hear in your head, it's all good.

hmm....a classical background would greatly enhance a producer's process of developing music. Classical music consists of its highs and lows which in turn is basically a derivative of Trance. heh...all i know how to play is the violin and it's was dubiously fun because it takes a lot of work to just play it....but yet after 8 years of playing it, i still don't know the difference between an 'A sharp' and a 'B flat'....but really, learning how to play an instrument and being in an orchestra or band would really enhance the way someone produces.

Its definatly an advantage to know basic music theory, playing an instrument can teach you that quite well. If you want to throw in some non-electronic sounds into your production then it is obviously a benefit.
Personally I played guitar for five years before even touching a synth and now producing is almost like second nature.
