How is it laughable? The TV towers are structures too. They are freestanding, and they can house people. It didn't take 30 years to break the record because there was never any record to break.

There are about 40 towers worldwide that are taller than the CN tower, and many more between the height of the Ostankino and CN towers. The difference is, the people who build these towers build them for functionality and not bragging rights or tourism.

The CBC Real Estate Co. in NC is 592.4 m, about 40 m taller than the CN tower.

means you can go up and live there, visit. Elevator helps alot, which can't be said about the radio towers listed. in other words, anyone can go up there and not some technical acrobat dude (spiderman).

i was under the impression that the CN tower was built for both functional as well as use in tourism
