I think "trance" is a general term now. and you cant associate it with one style. When you say "trance" you mean the basic feel, but you have different subgenre's. With TA, everyone has their favourites and for the MOST part, most ppl are accepting of their favs. Here is MY opinion of the breakdown (in general terms, from one extreame to another:

Hip Hop / Euro

House / Break beats

Trance is:

Progressive (Sasha, diggers? ~im honestly not sure, not my thing...yet who knows)

Prog-Trance (Markus Schulz)

Melodic Trance (Freezel from ETS, Tiesto's in search of sunrise series)

Uplifting (A&B)

Anthem (Ferry)

Hard (Kai Tracid, Cosmic Gate)

Outside:
Techno (Carl Cox, Deko-Ze)

Hard Style

Just my idea. Their is other stuff im missing too. oh and for sure the LINES ARE ALL BLURED LIKE YOUR ON E

Uplifting, Euphoric, Epic.....these are the words that, to me, describe Trance.

Trance is a story. It is dramatic. It takes you on a journey .

When I hear Trance music, I see thousands of people in a stadium, with their hands in the air and smiles on their faces. It brings everyone together; the crowd's energy becomes one.

SEX!!! Yes, good trance is like good sex. It takes it's time in building the moment, the feeling. It doesn't need to rush. It just builds and builds until it reaches that ultimate climax!

exactly.

Trance has a cinematic appeal to it that other genres generally don't. Which is why I think a trance musical score would be amazing for a movie. They should do that more often. Like BT did a pretty good job scoring for the movie Go.

... but i digress... sorry...

I agree 100%, and there are still plenty of tracks coming out that do live up to this which is great!

I dunno, if anyone went to Orkidea the other week, I'd have to say that I'm glad some djs are still carrying the trance flame.

Tis true, trance is evolving, it does so every year.

AVB is also still carrying the flame.

Orkidea was sick! No doubt he does carry that torch, along with alot of others.

Trance is evolving, but it is still trance.

It is the same with almost all music. Music constantly changes, evolves and takes elements from other music styles. As long as it still holds true to it's root, it should be categorized as the same genre. Only from a different point in time.

Judging by the productions coming out recently, I think trance is getting better every day.

As man evolves so will every genre of music.... Everyones take on their own music experiences are different... Trance will sound like trance, if you believe thats the way that it should sound.. Individual tracks dont sound so "trance-like" as say a set by a live DJ on stage... Everything an everyone needs time to be able to find their place an sound...
But thats my opinion...

the reason why trance music is called trance is bcuz it puts u into a trancey state. so if its doing that for u (it is for me atleast) than its still trance and called trance. its just slightly different then the earlier trance.
but imagine if it didnt change and just got remained the same always. that would be boring and sooner or later the music would be dead. so it HAD to change (it wasnt intentional but it just so happened)
