But back to the issue at hand, i think the concept of the euro is great, but another problem it presents is one that hasn't been mentioned yet: The Money Trade.
Remember, a lot of people make their money investing in countries' currencies alone. My dad is an investment guy, and he has a lot of clients who speculate on currencies all day (buy/sell one countries' currency for another depending on their fluctuation).
The upside to the euro is obviously the uniformity, but like O'callaghan said, its almost like a flag.... some countries do well by their strong currencies, while others suffer... this is kinda like a poorer country pulling all the rest of europe down, you know?
Maybe that is why England didn't want to join - the pound is one of the strongest currencies in the world - they could only lose if they joined in the proposition!
Another downside: if one country's economny colapses, won't that kill the euro everywhere and effect every country in the EU?

I wish I'd been there, I'm always in for a good laugh
so, maybe 1 benefit would be that you don't have to search through all these different coins and bills when you travel through Europe, but I think that was what either Faye or Twilo said....I just thought of my mother swearing and cursing when we were travelling to France through Belgium and she had Dutch, Belgian and French coins in her wallet hehe....and guess what I was doin? yea....laffin (boi I must be very mean.... )

A few remarks on what ABTyportsline and other wrote here:
1. Concerning "weaker countries" pulling down stronger countries in the euro zone: Each country that is in the euro zone has to keep some stability criterias as they were negotiated in the maastricht agreement in which boundaries for how much debts a country can make compared to their gross domestic product and how high their inflation may be.
If they fail to keep within these boundaries they can`t take part in the euro meaning that it is not possible that one country can pull down other countries.
2. The point that Britain has one of the strongest currencies in the world and can only loose with the euro is simply not true. The pound is a very strong currencies that`s a fact but the pound is worth too much to make a good economic growth since you need a slight inflation for that. Also the pound is so high that foreign investments don`t go to Britain but to other countries. The currency is also too high for other countries to import goods from Britain since they can get their goods from somewhere else cheaper.
There is also one mayor positiv effect of the euro that Britain doesn`t get: When companies sell products to other countries, say the US, they usually get paid in $ so when the $ is high they get more money in their own currency but when the dollar is low they get less in their own currency than planed. This risk is an important issue for companies either selling a lot to other countries or who have investments in other country`s companys. This currency risk is no longer existent within the euro zone which is a big step forward.
3. Countries loosing their identity through the euro: Opinions can differ on that one. I personally don`t think this will be the case since we will all still be Germans, French etc. but we will also be Euopeans. This is a tought that I personally like. Imagine the US. People are Americans but they are also say Californian. We live in world that is getting closer together everyday and I think that central european countries have enough culture in commom to become one Europe. I`m a European and a German.
There`s by far more about Europe and the euro but I hope I cleared up with some prejudices here (...and damn did I need that dictionary for that )

Well, to be honest I couldn't give a damn what currency I'm using, as long as I don't get confused and spend like £10 on a mars bar or something...
And isn't the currency in Turkey really weak? Like £1 = 2,000,000 Turkish Liras??? Everyone could be a millionaire!!! Yay!
