i really thought that efx transforming was crap. It would of been better if he did it the old fashioned way... but that's probably just me...

What was the old fashioned way? Using kill switches, or the phono/line switches?

My first thought when he loaded up the "transform" effect was "THAT CHEATING WHORE!!"

And then I saw what he was doing with it (the flange/jet FX) and I instantly forgave him.

Crossfader, like he did a little later in the video.

I really liked the flanger effects too. Ok, aside from the fact he doesn't have 3-4 hands i'll forgive him too.

You could do a fair amount of that stuff with your normal tts, and an efx. Just grab a scratch sample record. The loopage is nice, but not totally mandatory for that trans scratch trick thingy.

Btw...keep in mind, theres only room enough for one zabiela in this world. You should try to find your own gimmicky sort of thing that people will think is cool.

I bought my EFX this Summer and I'm yet to have it configured @ 100% volume wise. I mean, how do you guys manage to create that perfect loop that Zabiela shows? 'cos whatever I do, the track either loses volume when it's sampling, or is way too loud in one of the sources when I switch from the echo/sampler to the live track. how do you guys configure it? it's a bitch, every effect has different volumes so that it doesn't distort

I did it before w/ my alesis Ineko of all things. i had to adjust the delay, feedback and level all with just 3 analog knobs. I think i'll find some space so i can hook it back up.

I don't consider it cheating. A shortcut, perhaps, but what matters is how you take advantage of that shortcut. In this case, it allows him to scratch like mad with one hand, while the other can be, among other things, toying with the effects unit. The resulting sound is something that a crossfade/vinyl scratcher will never get (unless he grows a third hand... or uses his nose like Donald Glaude.... god I love that guy).
