Re: errrrrrr

I can't find anywhere to upload the sample file. If someone can give me somewhere I can upload it to through FTP I'll do it.

Yes, there is a small difference. But I'm on a 28.8 connection and there's not a huge amount of space on my Hard Drive so there's no way I'm going to download an MP3 twice the size of a 96 kps just to get a tiny bit better quality.

I listened to the 3 samples I made and I can see a difference but the difference is so small that I don't see why a lot of people take 192 kps MP3's over 96 kps.

I would have to say, that after listening to literally 1000s of mp3, unless you have shitty audio components (as mentioned before) you should be able to tell the difference between 128 and 160 quite easily...
The difference between 98 and 196 should be enormous! What type of speakers/sound card are you using???
I 'used' to use the on-board sound card on my Asus MB (note: piece of POOP audio) and then went and got a SoundBlaster Live! Value II and WOW! Like night and day in the audio quality.
I'd like to hear those samples actually...

You're just another newbie.

What exactly is the point in this thread? I don't know where it is going but it doesn't seem to be in a good way.

I have said it before and Ii will say it again. I think the difference is minimal. That is my opinion, if you think there is a big difference I am not stopping you. This is the last reply I'm making to this thread.

I refuse to get involved in any flame wars. If you want to continue this discussion. Do it to me in PM.

Wha? Flame Wars? I dont see em but whateva.
Personally I like 160. Its better than 128 but doesnt take as much room as 192 So its a medium. And since I use MP3s to determine if I wanna buy that vinyl or not, then its a good thing to have clear music to listen to.(one thing I hate about those samples @ the stores is quality)
Is the differenc substantial between 96 and 128? I cant say, cuz Ive never listened to a track @ 96, but my burner wont let me burn anything less than 128..sooo..

@RavingLunatic: When you install that MP3Pro Plugin, you need to activate it in order to hear the difference (there IS one):

hmm.. I thought I tried that.. I'll try again.

hmm.. now that I try again, it does sound a bit better. but not much, and still not as good as a 128k regular mp3..

the mp3pro plugin does fill in the song name in winamp though

The best low bitrate encoder is Fraunhoffer Radium... by far... (excluding VBR cause it doesn't do that)
At high bitrates it's between Fraunhoffer and Blade Enc.

You must have been listening to too much music too loud if you can't tell the difference between 96kb and 196kb!... i fact i'm wondering why i can...

I can tell the difference between 320kb mp3 and an original wav file for gods sake! (but 256 and 320 is harder to distinguish... because they tend to have very slightly different distortion, but sound quite similar) I rip everything at 320

There is no point in reencoding 96kb to 196kb... that should make the quality worse than original 96kb... stupid MS.

I'll tollerate most 128kbps, cause that's unfortunatley what most ppl use on net, but 196kbps or higher is much better, and if i find 256 or 320 i'm really happy. My main problem is the distortion type... it isn't like a hiss in background, but a more annoying removal of frequencies... that's why i am happyish (to an extent) with the quality normal radio and chrome tape, but HATE low quality Digital music (MP3's etc)

I mean if we can't tell between 96 and 196 then why the hell are audio companies making Super audio CD's and DVD audio?

this may have been said already, but alot of the issues regarding bitrate dont just deal with the file, how it is ripped, or whatever. it VERY MUCH depends on what you are playing, ripping and listening to them through. the better your cd player(ripping), sound card and speakers the easier it is to tell the difference. personally i would NEVER get an mp3 below 192k if i could help it, but especially now that napster is gone i have little choice (except for TA, cause swamper never gips us). i even try to burn CD to CD or buy cds just cause the sound quality is so much better there.

i think that its about time for a new music format so that we have smaller files with better sound and since the RIAA needs something to piss them off even more! late/
