^ totally agree with u Ian, bedroom producers just cater to the ASOT/GBDJB crowds and dj's hoping that they will get their tune in a Schulz mix...and thats the actual material thats considered "trance" nowadays...soem tune that a kid sat in his room busting his ass in fruityloops over just to get it played by his idols..armin/markus. Because afterall, the tunes that actually make it as "big" these days must get filtered through either of those two internet shows....if not they just arent "IN"....but as soon as avb spins it its gold.....example, whiteroom - whiteroom...what a joke, sure its not a bad track, but its the epitomy of the armada "ASOT" sound.

Exactly what i was going to say.

There are plenty of good tracks still being produced, people just have to look past the "mainstream" trance DJs/producers and explore a little bit.

It has lost its fire do to the fact that it has been around for over a decade and the formula has always remained the same. As the fans mature, they like to hear something new and a bit more innovative. Due to this, the BPM slows down.. anthem synths go away.. real instruments are used (in some cases) and you have progressive genre that many people love to hate. My answer to everyone is to get into people like Sasha, Deep Dish, Sultan, Infusion, The Greek, Scumfrog, Rouzbeh Delavari, Sander K, Holden, Hybrid, Ozgur Can, Andy Moor, Probspot. I think those people make the highest quality music today.

Wow, lots of opinion differences, thanks for the help. Making much more sense now!

Now what could be a practical resolution? I understand someone said that all the record labels should work together, but that's as tough as achieving world peace, how can we stop this from the get-go?
Maybe a trance show, possibly a Tranceaddict radio show, endorsing newer producers and their new styles/sampling sets? Just a wild idea, what do you think

I see that the problem with trance is that the people that represented the sound that was big back in '99 (armin, ferry, tiesto, whoever) aren't putting in the effort to make something like they did back then.

There is a real lack of inspiration and emotion with alot of stuff at the moment, and there are alot of what could be seen as "sheep" following the shepards, but that will never change.

When people say that trance has evolved, i think alot of the time they are just denying the fact that trance has lost the "fun" that it had back the day.

I really do think that more producers should, as ian said, take a look back and pick out the strongest points of any track that was defined as "trance". Which is exactly what i tried to do with "autumn falls" and with the feedback ive had from people, it worked.

Most genres seems to have lost its touch lately. Trance, techno, prog... people are just repeating themselves. That's because everybody wants to be DJ friendly. DJ should never be the main part of a party. England, for example, needs more Underworlds, Chemical Brothers, Prodigies and Orbitals... and Aphex Twins, for that matter.

I think you might be referring to the Miami-prog that Mr. Schulz has started... but maybe i'm wrong.

"american progressive" = "mcprog". there was a zillion pages thread about "mcprog", search for it and you'll find all the answers, plus some entertainment.

agreed, that's clearly part of the problem, many people instead of trying to make music roughly as "good" as they can, they make it as "spinnable" as they can for a specific dj, or for their own sets.
