Boa's got pretty much all the essentials i want in an afterhours club so it's hard to come up with suggestions that would make it perfect (afterall, perfection itself is a pretty subjective term). Here's what'd make Boa 'perfect' for me:
1) Keep your friggin Shirts on policy
This is a matter of double standards to me. Don't allow me in cause i'm wearing track pants because you have a dress code -- and come 3'oclock stand by as the circuit boys and juiceheads parade around with their shirts off, and sweat dripping. One or the other...shirts off, and allow people to wear what they are comfortable in (it's a dance club -- not the Drake Hotel), or stop the monkeys from taking their shirts off all togather and then tell me you have a dress code and i'll happily wear my jeans -- or...get the ladies to take their tops off and i won't give a damn about the first two <-- the other two become moot if the third becomes a reality )
2) Enforce the no smoking rule.
Even before i quit i was amazed at how Boa is the only club that seems to completely look the other way with regards to people smoking in the lounge. It's not like 1 or 2 people sitting in the corner, it's like 50% of the room, 2 feet away from the bouncers. Ventilation my ass. Still, i know it sounds hypocritical because i did the same thing just a few weeks back at NYE, but now that i've quit, it would be nice for a change to see the bylaw working for me.
3) Keep dipping into the diverse pool of talented DJ's out there
I know they have, and i'm aware of the plans to host different types of nights. My point is actually in support for the Boa management listening to everyone out there. I did believe that initally Boa was catering to the Gay crowd and the pure house lovers who didn't care what music was being played as long as it was House and Circuit friendly. I'm glad that Boa is now opening its doors to people who love other EDM. Personally, i think with that sound system, they are in prime position to bring in the best of every genre. I'd like to see more Break, Progressive House/Breaks and Live PA's in the near future, and i'm quite optimistic that will happen at some point soon.
4) Special Events, Battles & Theme Nights !
Keep it humming and you'll always have a stable of partiers who keep comming back. Boa's already doing pretty well in that dept so this point is again just in support of more creative nights where it's not just about the music, but the decor, the vibe and the life the party takes when the same venue changes it's look thereyb suprising even its regular patron. Parting should be an experience, and if Boa is to maintain it's status as one of best in TO, it should keep switching it up and serve it's customers with not only the best sounding dish on the menu...but one which comes newly decorated every time.
That, and i wanna see more Vs nights. Danny Tenaglia vs Lawler. Sasha vs Digweed. Tarrentella vs Redanka, Phil K vs Infusion, Carl Cox vs Omid16, etc... I know it's tough to get the bookings, but i'm including this as part of my wishlist)
And that would be about it...
Even without some of these points, Boa remains a very enjoyable clubbing experience. I doubt it will ever be perfect, but then again, who wants perfect anyway ? Gimme a deep dark jungle that dirty, yet safe, clean yet not without character, a haven for the childern of the night, protected by walls of sweet heart pounding bass and soft lights...gimme a club with a soul where memories are made, and keep perfection for yourself.
