Heh.... Bedrock = John Digweed & Nick Muir. And if Digweed is progressive cheese, I think not. There really isn't any progressive 'cheese' per say, its far too broad of a genre (Just compare Steve Lawler to Dave Seaman to Digweed, very different). Its just a classic, like Binary Finary was.

hmm, maybe I didn't say that the right way. Its just that I feel so cut off from trance music over here, and the way yall are talking it seems you can tell a commercial song from a normal song without even knowing if its been played anywhere or not. Over here, thre really isnt any commercial electronic music, except rap. and I meant to say that one day I hope to have such a music collection that the one I currently have will suck compared to it, because I hope to get better at finding the music I like. Anywhoo, thats why my signature says what it says, heh

something funny i just read in the responses:
Someone said that flight 643 is a complex sound,
thats pretty funny. Nothing against flight 643, but it is nowhere near a complex sound. For all I know its an alarm clock.

One line of logic: If it's commercial, it's cheese.

Another line of logic: If it has a catchy melody, it's commercial.

I agree that one huge feature of commercial trance is that it does have a catchy melody. Moreover, commercial electronica in general tends to be very simple. (Less is More).

Another feature is the slathering of Ibiza bar trash on the cover. See, because if it has a 'brand', then it's good.

Now consider uncommercial trance. I've noticed that there's a lot of crap. It's largely unbranded. And there is often several sub-divisions of trance. I've listened to tracks that sound to my ear to be more Montreal Hardcore than 'trance' as I know it. Yet, the DJ will insist that it is trance, and that's okay.

Music, to be commercial, has to appeal to the masses. (or some segment). Just because it doesn't sound good to some of us, doesn't mean that's it's necessarily trash, it just means that we like our music a different way. (More is More). The very sucess of some trance music (and Cheez EuroTrash Dance Muzik) seems to suggest that there's something different about us.

My conclusion is that there is nothing wrong with commercial trance music. That doesn't mean we can't innovate. "Moving the Median" isn't that hard. It was done in 1976(disco), 1980(punk), 1986(Ibiza),1987(NYC, TS404 rev took off) and 1992(DanceMix '92 released in Canada ) and like it or not, Robert Miles(1996). It'll be moved again...when somebody manages to produce something that the median likes.

Commercial Trance is rubbish in my book and personally i won't listen to it. I'm one of the many pissed off by the commercial trance makers that ruin the rep of trance.

DISAGREE! i think ATB's music might not be trance, it is possibly commercial, but it is not shit! i find the two worlds cd very relaxing. he did a song with enigma there and his songs are kinda like enigma's (not all of them, the ambient ones). so are you gonna say that enigma's shit too? i, for one, don't wanna hear the same song 40 times a day too (what the hell is up with castles in the sky, anyway? this one is finally driving me crazy, caz it doesn't sound like trance when they spin it on the radio 5 times a day. it's old anyways)
basically, if i heard tiesto's urban train 10 times a day, for a week, i would say it is cheese. the repetition of the song makes it cheesy in my opinion.
