no, because if that were so, the cells in your hand would begin to die, and by the time you'de wake up, it be all gangreenous. rather, the pressure being applied to the extremity is also putting pressure on the nerve. and pressure on the nerve for an extended amount of time would result in delayed or very little signaling travelling through it, resulting in numbness, and tingling.
