wow i might have to add a weekend in montreal!! sounds good! might have to check out this night club if its in the top 5 in the world like you say! the gay part does worry me though. as long as they leave me alone ill be happy. |
Montreal is great. But the gayness of the club actually does bother me. I've been there several times, but the last time I was there I did have problems. I have some horror stories I don't wish to share here, but like I said, if you get high, and are with a group of people, you'll still have a kickass time.

No more than I'm using your forum for information on Australia, my colonial brother.

i'd move to Canada, for the women, and for the summer only. In winter I'd be back in Sydney fo sho, umless I got a gig as a lift operator for a season at Whistler or something.
of all the people that i was on tour with through Europe, it was the Cannucks (two chicks) that I got along the best with. They're just easygoing peepz like us dole bludgers, cept they gotta work their asses off coz their wages are lower. Relatively speaking, it's the same shit.

We say the exact same about your women. There's something about the accent in the foreign land that just does it for the girls. And yeah, from what I hear you guys party quite well as well. As for whistler, it's great but not the 'end all be all' of canadian mountain fun. Banff is really cool, and is a great little party town, kinda like a winter version of Mardi Gras in the states. There are also wicked places to ski/snowboard in quebec, and if you're in montreal, you're only a short drive from vermont, another cool place to go.

Strange question, but how easy is it to travel from Montreal to Toronto and return?
Preferably train, or how cheap would flights be?
|
ISIC cards [if your a student, get one] make travel by VIA rail cheaper, a round trip between montreal and toronto is $135CDN which I believe is almost the same as in Australian dollars. Without ISIC it's $175. I've never flown to montreal as I've always had vitamins I didn't want to be found with, so even if for that reason alone, I'd recommend the train. It's about a 7 hour ride, with stops at virtually every hick town along the way. But before you invest in a train ticket, talk to the TOTAs or MLTAs, alot of us live in one city, go to school in another, and you might be able to scrape a ride out with someone. Either that, or join them on one of their roadtrips to party in the other town.

beeing aussie-canadian ive seen it first hand that canadians and australians get along together better than anyone ive seen. cause we both have such layed back attitudes toward life. canadians know how to party hard too!
but it sucks though that their minimum wage over there is so low. ive been looking at job postings to get some info for when i go to live there in august. like working in a bar your looking at 7-9 an hour! but you rely heavily on the tipping culture they have! i work at a bar here in adelaide and on the weekend you get over $20 an hour. its gonna be a tough struggle living over there but im sure ill survive and have some fun while im at it.
i love the chicks....

I've met lots of Aussies over here as well. Last 2 summers I've found really good partiers to accompany me on my various nights out of debauchery. Good times were had by all. If any of you are in town, it'd be my pleasure to make sure you have a good stay. As for tipping, it's not as big a deal as you'd think, tipping is standard here, where the server/bartender will make 10%-20% of whatever the item costs, and it goes straight to them, as if they were getting paid under the table. So don't worry about getting the minimum wage at $6.85 for a bartending job, you'll probably be making a rediculous amount more than that. Hell, when I was working at the guvernment, the bartenders would walk out with $500 every night, and me as a barback would earn at least $250 in tip-outs.
Another couple random notes:
Canadians are good drinkers. The Quebequois are probably the best, but anywhere you go in our country you'll find our beer has alcohol, unlike the states which enjoys drinking piss. We have a 'last call' at 2am in ontario, 3am in quebec, where the bars will stop serving alcohol after that point. I hear you guys don't, which kinda boggles my mind, as all other british countries do, and how you escaped that fate mystifies me. But don't be disheartened, look at the irish. When last I was there, their last call was at 11pm, but at last call, you'd but like 10 drinks or more, and stay out till mid morning anyway.
Drugs in Canada. We're way more liberal with our attitude towards drugs than the US. And although they're completely legal in Amsterdam, I defy you to find a country which smokes more weed than us [ref. Official TA stoner thread in the TOTA forum]. Hippies out west have taken to growing some great strains of weed which, when fresh, are probably the best in the world. However, Southern Ontario has probably the most weed per person than anywhere in Canada. Just because we have lots of weed doesn't make it ok to smoke it anywhere tho, unless you're in montreal, in which case they don't care, as long as you're not dealing.
Club drugs of choice, in montreal, it's speed. Speed speed speed. As a result, their parties go for a long long time. Also big in montreal is GHB. Toronto it's e. E lots of e, we had a 61 KG bust of the substance earlier this year, [just under 610,000 doses], but you know, I still haven't seen a drop in our supplies or a rise in our prices. K is also pretty common, especially among the 'cracked out asians' who frequent the guvernment.
