Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it was intentional or anything or a massive news story .

Just that it very definatly shows a lack of respect for the ocasion. He's just far too casually dressed.

Besides wearing a jacket with his name on it "I R Dick AND I have a jacket with my name on.... look.... look" should have worn thouse mittens on a string while he's at it, some Vice President. Though perhaps he is in keeping with the rest of the administration.

Seriously though I'd be embarrassed to have someone so ignorant as "my voice".

I'm sure he was just as mortified as the rest and I'm not making up 'excuses' for the guy.
You guys are right; he should have had his proper attire for such an important historic event.
Far-be-it (sp?) for me to assume the guy is human and forgot his winter jacket and boots.
But the point is, he showed up, despite his fashion faux-pas...

It shows a lack of respect, and if you cant see that, then your thick.

uhh.. sarcasm.. uhh..

i agree it's a lack of respect, but some people in here are blowing this funny incident out of proportion

I'm sure it wasn't intentional and I think some people need to think logically for a second before jumping to conclusions.
Lets think about this, where else is an American diplomat going to get a winter jacket at the last min.?
I think the situation is a lot simpler than some of you are making it out to be.

of course it wasnt delibrate. i doubt he woke up that morning and said "i know, will wear these stupid clothes just to piss people off"

its shows lack of respect though, you cant deny that. It shows a lack of cop on and planning also.

surely this people would bring a spare suit?! i mean its not like he cant afford to buy them!

True.
But in my books, that's a last min. decision because you're right, it's not like the man can't afford one.
I think time was the culprit there...

maybe there is some reason he wore that particular jacket. Im not a military expert but I think the eagle symbol on his jacket is the unit mark for an american airborne division. I saw an american film called Band of Brothers and the airborne unit in the film helped liberate a concentration camp at the end of World War 2.

So maybe he is saying (by wearing the jacket) that the USA also played a part in putting an end to the final solution.

I'll agree that this is an issue that really shouldn't be a big deal & I don't think Cheney meant any disrespect. As much as I don't like him, the guy has health problems and maybe he had to use a heavier coat than he planned to since it was freezing out there. If any Jewish groups or others affected by the Holocaust were offended, yeah, then he should absolutely issue an apology out of respect to their suffering, because he probably should have worn black.

That said, the left does a lot more than crticize, but there's a ton to rightfully do so about from Iraq to privatizing and cutting public services to cutting VA payments to hiring pundits to massive deficits to the environment that needs to be done. We don't want a totalitarian government where we just blindly follow the administration, do we? This is a small issue (unless Holocaust victims are upset) that I'll agree is partisan, because I think the tables would be turned if a Democrat had done so and the other side would complain instead. Lord knows the Republicans never criticized Clinton for anything.
