I will gladly hate on anyone who makes a public statement that a statue of Bush needs to be erected. I'd doubt even his serious supporters back home would be willing to go so far.

IMO the Mayor's remarks are rank with impressions of Old Iraq dictatorship. Replace "Bush" with "Saddam" and rewind a couple years and it wouldn't seem that out of place. Parhaps he doesn't realise you don't need to kiss ass like that in a democracy.

Nah Josh - I think you are wrong.

I agree with you in a way - I don't think a statue of Bush is necessary right now.

But if Bush and the Iraqis achieve the dream - say in ten years from now you have a vibrant democratic, politically stable, and economically prosperous Iraq - I think it would be more than nessarcy then to have a statue of Bush, not having one somewhere in Iraq would be insulting quiet frankly.

I think this is an issue of timing.

If you're going to give due credit why should Bush get all of it - especially with such controversy on the methods he used to obtain that "vibrant democratic, politically stable, and economically prosperous Iraq." What about all the American & coalition soldiers, and civilians for that matter working on the rebuilding effort, that gave their lives to aid a cause that didn't directly affect them in the first place? If its a gift that is being sought here I think a more general one is in order like the French did with the Statue of Liberty.

In any case, I doubt such a statue would ever come to fruition. I don't have a great idea on how the people of Iraq view Bush, but if I had to guess, I'd bet my money that they wouldn't be very happy with such a statue.

It's just a shame that Bill Clinton wasn't in power when this happenned. There's a million "Clinton unveils his erection in Baghdad Sqare" jokes that could have provided these guys with material for weeks...
