I didn't know there were so many mayans in here. I'm surprised.
Anyway, regarding the end of the world: It should happen but it won't. Nowadays, I believe, there aren't that many mayas. And those that consider themselves mayas aren't willing to praise their gods as they should. There are no sacrifices, ayunos(fastings) or prayers. So I'm sure Hunab Ku, Itzamná, and Kukulcán are pretty upset right now. And don't forget the rest of the gods. All are important.
The priests or sacerdotes made some good observations. But it should also be noted that they relied a lot on the gods. Gods that today don't exist. The same goes for the priests. Only their findings are here with us.
I don't know much about this end of the world stuff that you people talk about. However, I am familiar with the cycles. You know how they go, one ends and the other starts. One cycle had to end. This is what the priests were talking about. Don't take my word of it, if you're interested, do your own research.
Continuing, the end of the cycle or the world can mean a lot of things here. The elite politeístas weren't that clear about their interpratations as to what was to happen to their world. So the end of the cycle could mean the end of an era, end of a civilization, or to apply it to today's terms, the end of Tiesto as the number 1 DJ. But it doesn't mean the end of the world.
Think about this: When a year ends and a new one starts, do you see a difference? Are you sober enough to notice a difference? Is there a difference between the last day of December and the first day of January?
The gods, if you choose to believe in them, work in mysterious ways. Unfortunately, they are people(priests) that choose to get in between the people and the gods. They mess things up. What they say is only an interpretation.
So will the planet be destroyed? No. Will a new cycle begin? Yes. Will we notice it? Maybe. Will we live to talk about it? Maybe.

This prediction has nothing to do with superstitions or gods at all, it doesnt say gods will destroy the earth. Its merely a theory put together because the mayans had their calendars calculated so precisely for so many years into the future, and then it all the sudden stops.
