I'm not a DJ, but I wouldn't want to pay for some crappy mp3. If anything, they should sell .wav files, like someone else mentioned. Also, include CD covers, booklets and stuff like that, in digital form of course.

Entire label catalogues should be available, buying vinyl is, right now, too big of a hassle for someone like me to start up DJing. Older vinyl in particular.

ok this became another nonsense vinyl vs cd vs mp3 debate, that wasn't the point. yes having wav avaiable would be great, yes everyone prefers having it with covers, yes there's loads of vinyl junkies who wouldn't buy anything else than vinyl.

i just ask you people one thing: why should the labels not release their tracks on mp3 (or wav, or flac, or anything downloadable), while still releasing it on vinyl? apart for the fact that it is an evolution, and the next logical step would be stop the vinyl releases and release only the files (not saying i agree with this!). i don't see any other logical reason than this.

Selling WAV files is unethical because a WAV file is usually about 5 times the size of an MP3. They should just release high quality MP3s or just use a different format, WAVs are too big for most people.

I don't see how that's unethical. They could easily offer mp3s as well as wavs, for someone who didn't want to download big files. Besides, in today's world of broadband and several hundred gig hard drives, wav files aren't that big.

They are when you 7,000+ MP3s already take up most of your hard drive. It's more just a matter of download time than anything, I'd rather download the file that's 1/4 the size that will take up less space than one that isn't but only has a slight increase in quality.

The mp3's you buy are generally of a VERY high bit-rate anyways, whats the problem, heck, at £1 a track you cant really complain

Okay, but 7,000 MP3s isn't going to be more than about 80 gigs. 7,000 WAVs would be about 500-600 gigs. This may seem like a lot, but hard drives are only getting bigger. Soon that won't seem like much.

Beatport sells now 320kbps mp3's which are very high quality, as well as mp4's and wavs. All songs are available in these three formats.

How does a track being released in digital format (AS WELL AS VINYL) affect you at all?

The point is a track should be made available in all formats now that thousands of DJs are playing in CDJs. Labels will lose if they don't do so...they will encourage more illegal downloading.
