I don't post here much but i've been reading these forums for about two years. Anyway, as a chem major with a minor in physics, my best guess about how atmospheric noise can be considered a source to derive arbitrary numbers is based on it's ability to convey frequencies (noises, sounds, temperature [temp. is heat and heat is nothing more than energy and thermal energy travels as waves]). It's ability to convey frequencies is dependant on the concentrations of certain molecules and other matter in the atmosphere. These concentrations are influenced by an infinite number of conditions and thereby making them a viable source for arbitrary numerical sequences. Please bear in mind that these conditions have a very minimal chance of being exactly identical(to the highest degree of precision attainable) on two or more occaisons and therefore prove to be a much better source of "randomness" than any CPU.
