Nat, you shudda bribed the cop. They take bribes in Italy. That's the only way around their bogus laws.

Usually the line you got told was the hint that bribes are welcome

As for this poor dj.... My deepest sympathy goes out to him, b/c he will never dj again after this.

Countries that require you to bribe the cops dont rank high on my list of places to go, at all. THERE'S NOTHING I HATE MORE than a crooked law enforcement system. It's an abuse of power, and those who do it don't deserve the badge. If I can't trust or depend on the police force in place, I don't want to go / live there.

not surprised at all,i know couple DJ's from Finland, and they buy all their cd's themself as there were hundreads of raids on the clubs in search of stolen music. its usual out there...

though he listens to whatever he wants on his personal computer - noone can charge him for that.

Hey, this sort of thing happened in Toronto 2-4 yrs ago.

They hit up all the downtown record shops, mostly with the focus on boot-leg hip-hop mixes from locals. (Play De Record most notably)

People in traditional DJ pools get advance copies to drop on the air, or @ events. They'd often use these new tracks for Funkmaster-flex type underground mixes. The labels loved the free street-promotion, but once dling got huge, they decided to try curbing all things they considered piracy.

Seems public resources are going to be draaaaaiiined by these corporations more an more... *sigh*

GOOD

Im sick of seeing DJs make money off of stolen music. Youd be surprised who does it too. And im not talking those promo CDs that they get from artist either. This problem is mostly with the local commercial DJs though and i suspect that is the case everywhere. It used to be that these commercial djs would have to spend money on music to make money. Not anymore.

I wish they would do the same thing in Canada too.

Again i have no problem with DJs who use promo MP3s from artist or actually own the music and have made MP3s for convenience. But all too many simply download and play which rips off the artist and the clubgoer. Why the clubgoer you ask? Because most MP3s sound like shit on a big system. ESPECIALLY downloaded ones.

So next time you are at a club and you think the system sounds crappy when it usually sounds good its probably an Mp3 DJ

I did manage to see him spin at a club due to a birthday party I was forced to go.His set was 90% vinyl...so I dont really think he'd get into too much trouble.
