k Seph i would like to see where you got your numbers
now
directly from that statistic canada site
site here
Population by knowledge of official language, by provinces and territories (2001 Census)
Canada 29,639,030
english speaking only 20,014,645
french speaking only 3,946,525
Both English and French 5,231,575
Neither English nor French 446,290
so if you calculate the bilinguals and french only ppl
thats 9,178,100 ppl that speak french in canada
this adds up to about 30.96% of the population
almost 1/3rd
now for ontario
total = 11,285,545
english only = 9,690,745
french only = 42,305
both = 1,315,715
that's over a million ppl that speak french in ontario itself
so if 30% of canada is considered either bilingual or only french. i don't see where seph's 80% english speaking only comes from. more like 70%
i think 10% is quite a difference
