I also don't have an mp3 of the Rank 1 song.

could u just make some short samples of melodies with various good patches u have made for the sh-32 pls?

Well you're definitely entitled to your opinion, but if you're referring to Norsez sample it may not be the best example of an SH32 supersaw sound. He had a pitch envelope running with a fairly low cutoff. If you can send me a sample of the sound your looking for I'd be happy to try to emulate it for you and post it.

DRM: What I'm not interested in doing is developing a bunch of SH32 trance patches and posting clips here so people can bash them and tell me to go buy a virus. I already have one.

Perhaps the well known Rank 1 - Airwave or the Rank 1 Remix of Cygnus X superstring would be a fitting example. I guess you know them

ive read through this and would like to clear some things up..

1. rb2k1 Supersaw VSTi: Ive made a supersaw vsti that trys to replicate rolands supersaw osc properly. I am updating doing some major additions this week to fix some major bugs and add some really nice things to it.. so look forward to this.

2. rb2k1 Supersaw Reaktor Ensemble: This is my supersaw ensemble that replicates rolands supersaw osc using Native Instruments Reaktor. This offers the best replication out for generating the supersaw the way the actual Roland JP does. This is getting a massive update as well.. so ill post soon about it.

3. rb2k1 Roland JP-80x0 Trance Bank vol1: This is my patch bank that ive created for the actual Roland JP-80x0 Series. (The Real Synth) So if you own a JP-80x0 and want some trance sounds for user bank a.. then thats what ive done..

Hope this clears things up about me..

Now.. about the sh-32 ive not heard any useful soundclips from this thing.. as ive only heard the roland demos which are quite non-informative. The SH-32 samples its waveforms so i would have to say.. this would probably hurt the overall sound quality of the synth.. and would probably show most in the supersaw osc because they could have done it 1 of 3 ways.. by sampleing the actual roland supersaw osc at each level of detune and mix.. (this would give you a total of 16,384 waveforms that the sh-32 would have to contain) now this is rather unrealistic that roland would do this.. so i bet they have just taken the saw osc that they have sampled and from that they generate the supersaw osc.. now if that is too much work then they have probably sampled the supersaw osc at 1 setting and used it as a default.. but ive never touched the synth so i honestly dont know. Personally.. dont waste your money on a synth that samples its waveforms.. you have vsts dont you.. :P it would be a waste. Save up for something of more quality i would say.

There is a review here for more info.

rb2k1 link SH-32 review

Variation 12 is a version of Roland's 'Super Saw', which is ideal for rich pads.

So it's not the actual supersaw of the JP-8000.

Ok. Maybe you can help educate me. My understanding is that the SH32 uses single cycle sampled waveforms for the oscillators, similar to the DCOs on the evolver or the custom DCOs in early korgs. Most other VAs generate their oscillators mathematically in real time. Are you saying the JP-8000 calculates the detune of the all of the saws in the oscillator before generating the supersaw wave? If it generates the waveform and then detunes one oscillator against the other and or uses a unison detune effect, the net result should sound pretty similar barring the effect of the filter and effects. Please clarify.
