from the web link
German tuner 9ff is claiming a new top-speed world record for road-registered cars of a blistering 241.1mph. The record, set by 9ff boss Jan Fatthauer in the company’s new 9F-V400, was achieved at the Nardo test track in Italy. It cracks the previous record of 240.1mph set by Andy Wallace driving a McLaren F1 in 1998.

Based on the 911 GT2

note the words "German TUNER" and "Based on the 911 GT2"

this is not a production vehicle and does not qualify. does anyone know the run numbers that the vehicle must be produced in to qualify, i know the mclaren wasnt considered "production" ford is building 1500 GT's this year to meet the production quota's but i dont know what the magic number is. Its nice to see a car take a record with good ol ford pony's under the hood tho. albeit i would have loved to see a flat head in there but only time will tell

cars with over 500hp in north america are not street legal last time I remember

and yes they are, but they are taxed to high hell some states prohibit them tho i think.

its pointless to argue over the motors.

different motors make a world of difference, different block designs have different hp / torque characteristics, also header design, bore / stroke, port angles, lobe offset on the crank. you can do a hell of alot with a n/a V8, but you can do WAY more with a supercharged ford flat-head V8 .

while im on the topic of motors.... the greatest pony to have fire in its belly was the BOSS 429 mustang, limited run, i believe only a couple hundred were ever made.

the number of cars to be built to be considered production differs from what governing body you are trying to get it approved by. for the Nippon racing leage, Nissan had to build 3 new long body 350z's in order for it to be considered productions. the Mclaren was production, with about 100 being built over the course of its life. It had a specially built facility, an assembly line, everything. definatly at production car.

i still dont understand this talk about banked versus nobanked. what diff does it make?

you cant drive wide open on a curve, youll always go faster on the straight. simple physics, if you take the turn to fast in a car no matter what car it is, you go off the edge... its called centripetal acceleration.

as for production,3 cars doesnt qualify for produciton vehicle and neither does 100 over its lifetime. both those vehicles are not production cars. most race governing bodies require 1000 vehicles publicly sold before they can enter a circuit. all that aside, your 9FF isnt a production car anyways, its a tuned car made by someone else. hell i could tune up a ford GT, get rid of that sissy paxton blower on it and throw on a nice big roots charger and have that puppy up over 1000 hp runiing on grain juice, but that doesnt make that car a production vehicle even if i were to sell 500 of them.

since i have never heard of 9FF before i doubt i could go to a porsche dealership and order one. this car is considered a specialty, or custom if you will. hell its basically a tuned up 911 GT2.

you are aware that both the mcl and the long body 250z race in their prespective leauges. so i do believe they are allowed on circuit

american muscle as well

http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/6492/callaway.htm

so the original statement at the begining of the tread is valid
production car , not tuner , not one off not custom

im sorry let me re define production vehicle, if you were given 150,000 US dollars could you go to the nissan dealership and get a long body 350Z? or would you have to be rich and famous to even hope at getting one. cause if you answered yes to number 2, it aint production

a production vehicle is one that is availible to the general public,

for instance the ferrari enzo is not production but the challenge stradale is a production car since if i had money to waste i could go to a ferrari dealserhip and order one.

by your defenition the Thrust II was a production vehicle

Actually you can order one from any Nissan dealership in Japan. It's nothing more than a body modification - new front and rear valances.

The Koeni is a nice car, but I don't think its reliability is very high, I've heard various things on different forums, and in one of the vids I got of the Gumball 3000 rally, some rich guy decides to buy one just for the rally (loadsa money) and he had problems in pretty much every race, I don't think he completed the rally as it just kept crappin out on him, I'll have to watch it again, I ain't bashing it as it has a Ford engine, I'm a fan of the GT, I just hope they made the reliability much better, but I'd still rather have a McLaren F1, or Mercedes McLaren SLR, or better still save loads of cash and get one of these.

Only 20,000 pounds, has a Supercharged Civic Type R engine tuned to 300HP, on a 500kg body and hits 60mph in 2.8 seconds, and as for cornering, well SEE YA, around a circuit, its as fast as a Ferrari Enzo, and its Street Legal, well in England anyway.

For a video of this, download this episode of Top Gear, this is a bittorrent file.

Yup, this is my favourite 4-wheeled machine at the moment. Even moreso than a Lotus Exige or a 340R.
