Firefox has received (free) press in every major American news outlet (both print and television) over the last 6 months. The "awareness" excuse is not an acceptable one.
The fact of the matter is - Firefox has not created a compelling reason for users to change from IE. IE has corrected the pop problem with the XP-SP2 update - further reducing the need to switch to Firefox.
Further, Firefox's marketing ability has nothing to do with product quality or consumer preference.
Lastly, most websites are designed for IE (since 85%+ of the users use it) and not Firefox. Regardless of w3 standards - if anything Firefox creates rendering/access problems - not solves them.
