My cousin is a huge rock person, completely into it and I'm really the one around who listens to trance/(real) house etc etc. So one day I played it in my car, to be specific, Tiesto!
He actually admitted that he likes it, BUT only tracks without vocals, he thinks the vocals ruin it all. But that's still a huge step for someone like him who would never listen to it.
So now the next thing I'm trying to do is bring him to a club in Toronto with only that music playing. He'll look so out of place but no one really cares at clubs/events like these. Everyone's cool.
But to answer your question, I guess just play it for them, if they like it, great! If not, whatever. All I say is to not hate on it, and I'm dead serious when I say it to people, "because it's just as hard as making a rock song". I hate people who say one genre is shit. |
Funny you should mention Metal/Rock. Most of the producers I know and a lot of the DJs who play trance have all been into metal and played in bands... some even in the same bands as me.
Musically they are not as different as you might think.
To the original poster.
There isn't really a lot you can do about this. Just be professional and play to the crowd.
The other thing is that there will come a time in the evening when you may be able to drop a trance track or two towards the end. But essentially it sounds like you are playing the wrong venue.
Be a pro and entertain people first off and secondly try and get a gig in a place that suits your tastes more.
Cheers
Nem
