Cool

I think DJing using both headphones over the ears is the best way to learn. I think that's the hardest way to beatmatch, when you can do that effectively using monitors and one-ear in the phones are easier and more useful, the more ways you can do things only helps you improve!

Interesting, I find it easier matching in the headphones.

when listening to the room, the sound is bouncing all over the place.

plus, it has to go out the mixer, into the amp, down the speaker wires, and to your ears before you hear it.

that doesn't take long, but still, straight out of the mixer is more direct.

to each his own.

like i said it was my first show and it was a house party and i wasn't (and still am not although getting better) much of a dj. i would just beatmatch and then i wouldn't really fade the track in that much. nothing real quality i would just bring the volume up slowly and then cut the other track out real quick. i really didn't know what i was doing and it was my first time playing through speakers really since i live in an apartment and the only time i'm not at work is when everyone else is already sleeping so i got to be a headphone dj by default. after that though i always take off the headphones when bringing the other record in over the speakers. it's not bad to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. but yeah i'm better at fading tracks in and out now although i still need a lot of work in that area. also i like to beatmatch in my headphones and then take one ear off to do the fade. it's easier for me to beatmatch in the headphones than using the monitors. not sure why. to each his own i guess. cheers!!!!
