I think you're parsing "peak controller" incorrectly in this case. A limiter does control peaks, but that's not what peak controller means. Remember, we're talking Floops speak where peak controller means a pluging that uses volume (peaks) to control some parameter. Essentially, it's a peak follow that can be linked to any parameter. They just called it a peak controller.

Gotcha

I have never played with the Peak Controller in FL.

Thanks jex, I'll toy with it a bit.

This was taken from another thread for Fl

" I've been messing around with this tonight, and I know a lot of people wonder how you do it, so I'll try to fill ya in. Many people say it can't be done without some special plugins, and others try to do it with the compressor, but it's quite simple to do using the Peak Controller. This is specifically for ducking, a particular type of sidechaining. I don't know much about sidechain compressors and what they are capable of, but I think ducking is the most common use. Here's a simple step by step guide.

-put your kick on fx1
-underneath all your fx (eq, compression, etc) select the peak controller
-turn the volume on the peak controller all the way up and lift the little parabola thing up all the way
-make sure to uncheck the 'mute' box. if you don't do this you won't hear your kick
-add your bass, using long notes, as if it were a pad.
-right click the volume knob of the bass and select 'link to controller...'
-under 'internal controller' select the one that says 'peak + lfo'
*HERE'S THE TRICK*
-click the arrow to the left of 'mapping forumla' and select 'invert'. if you leave it on default the bass will get loud when the kick hits and drop out when the kick stops, which is the opposite of what you want.
-it may seem a little out of sync, so adjust it with the 'smoothing/time' knob. you won't hear the results until you hit the 'accept' button

That should do it.

There are a lot of ways you can adjust how the bass reacts to the conroller. The way I have described will make the bass volume go from 0%->100%, so the bass will turn on and off, if you want to have the bass do more of a fade in fade out then heres what you do: Create a copy of your kick drum, and give it its own fx bank. Put the peak controller on this bank instead of the original kick. Now make sure you leave the 'mute' box checked so it doesn't interfere with the original kick. Now turn the volume down on the kick until the bass sounds right. As you adjust the volume it will affect the timing, so go back and mess with the 'smoothing/time' setting again. "

No one still hasn't explained how to do it with Waves C1. I can guarantee a lot of us are still very interested since it's a high quality plugin with lots to offer.

I never understood this hatred of ducking just like I never understood the hatred of the supersaw. It's been replaced with a "super-square" in prog, which is just as overused (admittedly, I use it myself, but it's never about how often it's used, anyway.)

Ducking can be cheesy, yes, but it is also a hallmark of progressive trance. A side-chained pad can sound rather nice in concert with a multi-layered mix, even if it's at the center.

I'm gonna attempt to explain how its done with Waves C1 comp s/c.

Here goes:

1. Make a copy of your main kick in the step sequencer window and create a pattern with say 8 kicks and name it s/c kick. Put this on FX1, and pan it fully to the left. Then place this pattern where you wnat the effect, the best way I have found is to place it all the way through the track as this will allow you to use the effect wherever in the song you want to, so you can get the effect without the main kick, which sounds nice IMO.

2. Put your bass on FX2, using long notes like a pad (as above)and pan it fully to the right.

Then on FX3, insert a Waves Comp s/c. use the following settings:

Key Mode: L->R
Makeup: 6.0
Threshold: -12 (If you go lower the pumping effect increases)
Ratio 2:00:1
Attack: 1.00
Release: Anywhere between 30 and 100 (To suit taste)

you also need to turn the stero separation knob on the fruity mixer for this channel fully to the right. Its the second knob above the main volume fader for the channel, on the far right of the mixer. This makes the channel mono, if you didn't do this you would just hear the bass from the right speaker. You need to do this for FX1 and 2 as well.

Now you've got that set-up, you just need to send the signal to the S/C group channel (SEND 1) so you select the fx channel for the kick and the bass in turn and then turn the send knob up fully for both kick and bass, and with any luck you should hear the bass being sidechained.

Hope this helps.

P.S. If anybody knows a better way or a way to improve on this please feel free to comment.
