well. to get famous, they have to be good. once they're REALLY famous, they can shit themselves, and there will always be someone celebrating it. i'm not saying they all do this, but many have.
like, Oakey, for instance. before the flaming comences, no one can deny the man went downhill after 2000, and even if you like what he's up to now, it's not anywhere near comparable to his EM Tour sets. sure, he has done a lot for trance, and dance music as a whole, but that doesn't mean i still have to worship his ass.
nowadays, dance music being a lot more popular, if there is and up and comer that becomes famous, you can bet your ass it's because he's good. guys like these are James Zabiela (who, even if you hate his music, you are an idiot if you say he is not technically impeccable) who started from nothing, and caught the eyes of the big boys. Magda, the minimal techno DJ, she is a great DJ and producer, now touring with Richie Hawtin. you have guys like Frank Lorber, who has been spinning records since he was 15, and now at 29 has the prestige of being called "Sven Vath Jr." (even though i'd rank him above Sven... have never heard anyone mix techno on 3 decks so cleanly and sharply, and such an amazing track selection).
these will be the fathers of electronic music tomorrow. and, in contrast to todays leaders, they do have people that they have to beat, to work harder than, to impress. back when Danny Tenaglia, Digweed, Sasha, Tiesto all started out, they were apparently 'pioneers' in their area. they (some of them) seem to hide behind this fact and continue to do what they did 5-8-10 years ago, in a neverending cycle of monotony. others move on, and justify their existence, proving they are not just some obsolete figurehead.
