Pope John Paul pictured in jail, visiting his would be killer, the right-wing Turkish fanatic Mehmet Ali Agca, who shot the pontiff several times as he toured St Peter's Square in the Popemobile in May 1981.

Despite this, the Pope was eager to follow Jesus' teachings and forgive him.

How many among us would be able to find the strength to do the same?

Same here. I feel a sense of loss in my heart. The man was given a great burden, chosent to lead a billion people in faith and morality. Yet he embraced his duty, reached out to everyone, taught love and compassion for Catholics and non-Catholics alike. In a world that tells you to conform to a new standard, Karol stuck by his morals, stuck to his guns, something that many people talk of but in the face of great opposition fail to do. Love him or hate him, one cannot deny the fact that this was a great man striving to unite everyone through a common thing we all share, love. May his greatest ambitions and dreams live on in the hearts of every spiritual person. Being a Christian is a all about believing that God came down in human form, and that the spirit of Christ lives on in each and every one of us. John Paul 2 The Great was an excellent example of this. Good show my brother, my spiritual leader, and beloved sheperd, good show.

I think a lot of you hate him because of your views of religion. The man tried his best to bring people together and the man was a good man, hell he forgave the man who shot him. The man tried to make the world a better place, unlike any of you people.

True, but naturally if you dont like religion, there are many values you dont share with him (alltho you probably share some of them), and if you dont really agree with him, there is no real reason to see him as something that great.

That said i think he was a good man, but there are many things that i strongly disagree with him, i also think that the media have been reporting way to much about this lately.

Great man indeed.

he wasn't a great man: his shakehand with pinochet, the catastrophe in Africa generated by his positions against the condom, the canonization of the founder of the opus dei.

ya, easy to bash him eh? what have you done in your life that compares? You many not agree with some of what he taught, but he chose to uphold values that he believed to be good in nature. and you know what? he never once forced anyone to follow. you have a choice, exercise it.
