Sly Guy's entire weekend
First off, I'd like to thank everyone who was out at boa this weekend. I was both really impressed with how many of you guys came out, and how long you all stayed. Nothing could have been better than seeing nothing but friendly smiling faces in the crowd no matter which way I turned.
Ok, well the weekend started with a night out with some highschool friends. One guy in particular, Chris, I've know since the first grade was out to punish me for what happened on his b-day a couple months earlier, so I knew I was in trouble. I was starting to get sick, but I knew that there was no way I was gonna be getting out of partying this weekend short of actually being hospitalized, so I accepted my fate and knew alcohol poisoning was a very real possibility. Last year, I attended the engineering and nurses 'toga pub' in hamilton, where I failed misrably in keeping my b-day a secret [mostly because my friends wrote 'it's my b-day' on the back of my toga without my knowledge] , which caused me to have 135 engineers all willing to buy me drinks, getting kicked out of the bar at 12:30, running away from my 'bodyguards' and being found at 3am in gino's pizza haggling with the clerk to give me a deal on pizza drunk as hell, in my half ripped toga. This year I figured ~5 guys couldn't do the same level of damage to me....WRONG!
Pre-drank a little before heading out on Friday, 5 pints or so, a couple puffs on a spliff, had a very nice buzz heading down to tonic [where we were informed it was relatively cheap as to maximize the amount of booze they were gonna hit me with], but perrin [chinaman] was wearing sneakers and couldn't get in. Forced to walk down the street to Joe, lessening my buzz, but that wouldn't last long. Perrin gets me two beers as soon as we're in the door, followed by 2 shooters of what I have no idea [greadine on the bottom, slightly spicy/cinnamon-like on the top, harsher than jager], then 2 vodka shots [misstress vodka is never forgotten either]. Couple more beers [I think], when Chris remembers that although I handle my alcohol at a superhuman level, my kryponite is rum. White rum in particular. But I've taken steps to prevent rum getting to me, and I tell the bartenders not to serve me any rum or risk having their bar get messy. It's at this moment, another guy shows up to the party and since the bartenders don't know he's part of my group yet, lines up an EXCESSIVE amount of rum shots on the bar. Well, now that they're poured, and the alcohol is starting to take effect, why not? It'd be a shame to waste. After an ungodly amount of rum, I can't remember a thing, apparently I kept everything down and the bartenders were actually very impressed. I remained relatively well behaved, and could still stand on my own and respond to simple conversation and flashing lights. I do remember getting my coat, nothing about the walk home, apparently I smoked a joint on queen street on the way back. Got back to my area of the city, where I was suppost to get food before they took me home, when I ran off by myself [I have a real problem supressing my desires for drunken 'adventures']. I woke up still drunk at sunrise on saturday morning, as my window faces east in my bedroom, a cruel and unusual punishment for a nocturnal fiend such as myself, only to find I didn't make it to my bed. Instead, I had fallen asleep on the floor, and used my curtain as a sheet. I discovered a can of pringles in my hand, unopened. I then scrambled to bed where I sobered up around noon, and continued with a 5-star hangover till about 7PM.
Nothing of too much consequence happened later on in the evening, except approximately 4 meals to replenish my system, a sniff of wine which changed my mind on a predrink at Marg's place, and a rather good and much needed pre-boa nap. Got up at 12:30 or so, had another meal, and went to boa.
Well what can I say about Boa? This was one of the best vibe's I've ever seen at Boa, and that's saying quite a lot. Between the massive amount of TAs in attendance and the overall friendliness of the rest of the crowd, this place was great. Nevio began the night putting out a decent but not stellar opening set. He leaned a little bit too much toward the vocal/disco stuff for me, but there were several good moments in his set. the combination track of flashdance and say hello was a cool teaser track I thoroughly enjoys as well as that mix of rachel starr's till there was you. Diginut was complainig about the disco at the time, but he knew as well as I did, chus and ceballos weren't gonna be playing diva house.
They came on, and started up with the latin-like tribal I love them for. Throughout the night they built their set harder and harder, a lot more techhy than I'm used to hearing them, but I was loving it more than I can explain. Some of the basslines on those tracks were just filthy. And that remix of pump up the jam? Wow. They had me grooving from start to finish, and I personally enjoyed this set more than the one they played on new years. Maybe it was the fact I hadn't been dancing the previous 30 or so hours that allowed me to enjoy it more fully? Either way, the night went by too fast, as it seemed, I still had plenty of energy left come closing time, and seriously contemplated the zone.
I do have an additional 'Afterclub' story, where after taking time to walk to spadina station, in an attempt to look a little more lively than the 'living death' I was after the club closed, I ran into a 70+ year old polish woman at the top of the stairs at spadina. She hardly spoke a word of english, spoke to me and said 'help. Bathurst? Help. pelase.' So I tried to explain how to get to bathurst station, but she had no diea what I was saying. So I motioned for her to follow me, but seeing as I looked extremely sketchy after two nights of partying, she was a little bit nervous. She followed me nonetheless, and told me in very broken english she was going to church to pray for my soul. I really think she thought I was gonna hurt her, I got her onto the train, took her to bathurst station, and when the subway PA came on and said 'bathurst is next...bathurst', the change in her facial expression was priceless. She became all happy and started saying 'good boy. you...good boy. I go to church, pray for you, good man.' So I got off at bathurst with her, helped her up the stairs and sent her on her way, all the while feeling really good about it. Haha, not all sketch bags are bad people.
So ends my weekend, but I have to give some shoutouts to the people who made it great.
