I have to agree with you on this one, I love EDM, but for actually turntable skills, the top turntablists are just far more advanced, there more about the skills where most EDM DJs are about making a good flow of music, so it requires some good turntable skills but you have to really know music and know how to make 2 tracks sound like one, this is one thing that bothers me, I love my EDM music but dam I want to do so much more.

EDIT: but if I was gonna pick an EDM DJ, I dunno who would be top, but Carl Cox would be up there, along with a local DJ from back in England by the name of Jamie Allen, hes got skills from all corners of music.

DMC does have a dance category now. So your trance heroes can step up to the plate and battle for world supremacy all they want. Very few of them do. It's mostly dominated by house DJs. Very good house DJs, slamming records down every 20-30 seconds and scratching, constructing megamixes on the fly. BadBoyBill won one year, I believe.

I'm not discrediting Zabiela at all. He's a phenom for sure, and I love it when he dips into the time-stretched micro-house/glitch stuff.

But there's a reason why none of these guys can hold a candle to hip hop DJs. For one thing....hip hop has a 20 year head start on virtually every other DJ-based music from a technical standpoint. So they got that sense of history, that "what has been done before, what is there left to do" mindset. Trance, when you think about it, didn't really start pushing its DJs until about 10 years ago. If you plot its course with the course of hip hop, then an accurate correlation can be made suggesting that trance DJs, as they stand today, have the frame of mind, skillset, knowledgebase of their craft and ambition to advance it that hip hop DJs had back in 1982: Just STARTING to break the mold and explore the possibilities of what they can do with their equipment. As each generation learns from the previous generation before it, it advances the techniques and the skill level of the artform. Trance has been doing this for a relatively short timeframe compared to hip hop, which is much older, much wiser, with an older history, reputation, and much more deeply rooted into the mythology of its culture (ie: Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash, Kool Herc, etc..).

Hip hop is just that much more sufficiently advanced.

According to what I've read here by Ishkur, and what I've read about Ishkur, those of you who talk crap about him obviously don't know what you're talking about.

I have to agree with Danny T and Diggers. And about scratch DJ's...most of those guys get to the DMC comps after only 3 to 5 years of playing. Not that they don't kick ass, but you take any EDM DJ and have them focus on scratching for a year and they would be able to kick ass at some DMC comps also. I just think it takes longer to become technicaly good as a EDM DJ than a scratch DJ.......but hey who gives a fuc

Well I personally would change Ishkur's list by replacing Jeff Mills with Bad Boy Bill. Of course because he did place third in the american midwest DMC championship in 1989. But it was third...and midwest...and 1989...but still. DJ Aladdin and some other guy I forget beat him. He put on a weird set though.

KK, but fack, you would be very suprised what some trance djs could pull off if they where at all interested in the DMC's. Put Van Dyk or Marco V ect.. in that particular element and by by boys, the new kids are on the block. IMO.
