God bless Pope John Paul II. He made his world a better place with his presense, changing peoples lives. He did everything he could to get the message across, all over the world, that we must love eachother and love ourselfs. Peace on earth.

Although, I personally find the Modern Catholic Church very hypocritical and the pontiff typically more of a figurehead. Pope John Paul II was a testament. He survived one of the greatest tragedies of our time for a purpose. To spread peace, joy and tranquility across the World!

For this I have the utmost respect and admiration, He should be missed by all mankind and will not be easily replaced!

Good question.

Let's see what we have today... oh yes the good 'ol republicans using the Popes death to further their own agenda by comparing themselves to the Pope. The Pope believed in a culture of life, and hey President Bush has long believed in a culture of life according to the White House press secretary. But oh, when you bring up the death penalty conflict, well that's just taboo now. Please don't disrespect the passing of this great Pope who was a great pillar of humanity and freedom by pointing out our own damn hypocrisy!!!

Oh and by the way, the Pope was against the war in Iraq too, saying it would be a "defeat for humanity". The Vatican called it "illegal", "immoral", and "unjust".

Good 'ol Bush is so much like the Pope, now aint he?

Alright, JP2 was a great guy, and he meant well to the world, but seriously, how much of this massive world mourning can you accredit to mass hysteria fueled by the media.

Not to disrespect the guy, but if it wasn't for all the specials on him lately, how much would you actually know about the guy....or care. Not singling out anybody in particular, just an observation.

I mean, it parallels princess diana's death in the sense that when she died, everyone was upset, heart broken even, such a shame that the "princess" died. But I think these emotions were drawn out by the media. Culture is no longer created from the bottom up but fed to us from the top down.

Karim

I couldn't disagree more. The outpouring of love for JPII is from the bottom up, and the mainstream media could not ignore it and has had to respond to it.

I will say this about Bush:

His tribute to JPII was much more heartfelt than the "Catholic" Paul Martin's. Also, the U.S. currently has flags at half-staff... does Canada? That's such a great honour for a religious leader.

edit: Bush is a Methodist

To SOME extent, the worlds cares and concerns for JP2 are valid (mainly devout catholics), and they made him a cultural icon from the bottom up, HOWEVER, a huge portion of the people that care right now (your neighbours, your friends, etc.) had their feelings completely influenced by the media. These are the same people who would skip over a POPE story if reading the news paper back when he was alive and well, but in his death, they all of a sudden care.
